Superchip opinions?

I know we just had a "chips" topic but it didn't seem to go anywhere. I am seriously considering chipping my truck.

How many of my V10 brethren have added a Superchip?

Would you do it again?

Did you have even miniscule mileage gains?

Were the power and shifting improvements worth it?

Re: Superchip opinions?

I have the V-10 and the SuperChip. My mileage gains are miniscule, if any. It does make the truck drive and shift better. Would I do it again? Probably. The two negatives are that the chips are expensive, and so is premium fuel.

If you get a SuperChip I'd HIGHLY recommend also getting a free flowing-intake and exhaust. The intake/chip/exhaust combination really brings the motor to life.

Re: Superchip opinions?

William,

I haven't installed a chip in my truck but am strongly considering it. There is a lot of good information at www.f150online.com in the computer chips section. You can talk to Mike Troyer there. He is a distributor of Superchips and has been able to answer a lot of my questions. Hope this helps. If you get one, let me know if it helps. I was mostly considering it for the improved gas mileage, but have since learned that it doesn't really help your mileage that much. It's more for the extra HP and torgue than anything else (and improved shifting from what I've heard).

Re: Superchip opinions?

I have had a Superchip in my 00 V10, auto for just about a year now. I cannot notice a milege advantage, but the shifting of the transmission is alot better. I also have a Superchip for my Lightning and the gain in that was very noticable. I would buy one again for any truck with a automatic trans, if I had a manual trans, it would be a more difficult decision.

Re: Superchip opinions?

I had a Superchip in my 99 V10 5spd, and I now have a chip in my 2000 V10 5spd. My mileage on the 99 went up by a whopping 1 mpg, and the 2000 I have only had the chip in it for a week, so I haven't had a chance to check the mileage...the power is definitely noticeable as well. I think what they advertise is fair for a power improvement...

I would definitely do it again...actually, I did do it again...heh.

Re: Superchip opinions?

I just ordered one from Diablo. I will let you guys know how it works out.

The price on the Diablo is much less then Superchips.

Hey Brian, I didn't know you had a SD.

Re: Superchip opinions?

V10man,

It was not that much less for the single program($50.00 less). For the flip chip that's where you will save, we're talkin $250+, less then superchip.

I don't know how the Diablo works, still waiting for it in the mail. I will let you all know, soon I hope

Re: Superchip opinions?

I just got done with the Diablo chip.

Less than happy.

0-60 1/4 MPH
8.78 16.81 85.7
8.85 16.90 85.1

With Diablo
8.30 16.50 86.1
8.59 16.59 85.9

This is what I have for performance from a 2001 F-350 CrewCab SB 4X4 V-10

Re: Superchip opinions?

Well when you have a truck that weights about 7000 lbs, what did you expect??

Come on these things are meant to tow the world plus a keg in the bed.

Re: Superchip opinions?

It knocked almost 1/2 second off the 0-60 time and 3/10ths of a second off your 1/4 mile time- not too bad at all!

Re: Superchip opinions?

I guess I should have said, I asked for the max performance possible on 92 pump gas. I'm not getting any pinging with 89 mid grade.

My disappiontment,is that It's not the max power that can be had. Also there is still a timing and fuel cut off between shift pionts, which I asked to be removed.

I have not tested to see if the speed limiter was removed?

Bottom line: I asked for a custom type chip and did not get it.

Side note: I'm testing gas mileage with it and it looks like it's up 1.5-2 miles per gallon? Was 9.5-10 in town, with chip 11.5-12.5. So did I get a performance chip or something else?

Kevin
