? for those with flowmaster 70 series

Can you hear it when you get on it? I did a search and it seems that this muffler is pretty quiet. I don't like the raspy sound that some of the other more agressive mufflers put out on the V10. The 70 series appears to be just the right size to replace the stock muffler as well.

FWIW

I called Flowmaster Tech Suppport and asked them about the 40, 50 and 70 series. They recommended the 70 for the V10. They said they designed the chambers for the larger displacement to get a good sound without the in-cab resonance.

Re: ? for those with flowmaster 70 series

Thanks guys. Tankhead, what was the reason you switched to the 30 series? I used to put the 50 series on all my old V8 trucks, sounded sweet, but I don't want the high rpm raspy noise from the V10.

Re: ? for those with flowmaster 70 series

Mostly for the sound. The muffler shop owner said it would flow better due to the smaller size of the case. And it supposed to have some kind of power chamber that scavenges the exhaust or something like that. Gives a pretty nice sound w/ these headers. But, I don't think I could stand it any louder.

Re: ? for those with flowmaster 70 series

I don't think it matters what you put on the v10, it won't be noisy in the cab. I tried a 3.5" spintech with a turndown right behind the cab and a 3" 2 chamber flowmaster with a turndown, didn't matter, it sounded the same and there was no resonance. I don't think either one ran any better, but the 3.5 made a funky sound for a split second when I let off the gas.

Re: ? for those with flowmaster 70 series

Went with the 50 series as the 70 sounds like stock. The 50 has a little more resonance in the cab than stock. It also sounds much better outside.

Nope! I didn't get the super stereo sound meter in there and measure it, but I've now tried three different exhausts, trying to make the thing sound mean and it just ain't gunna happen. It's not a V8! If you are really scared of resonance (like if you got kids in the camper shell) buy a spintech. Those things hardly resonate on anything and give more performance than anything out there...no doubt! Pretty trick design too.

Noooooo, its definately not a V8! But, why did u put on a spintech, never heard of it til now, which u say hardly resonate and a downturn? I thought u wanted it to sound mean. It does matter what u put on a V10! And u can make some noise if u want to. Very different noise, and most can't stand the V10 that loud anyways. But IMO, the headers definately helped w/ the loud sound. I think it sounds more like a big block. I said more now. Anyways, I'm gettin of the topic here. I would think the FM 70 Series would be one of his best bets for interior resonance. I'm sure there's others too.
