Timing Chain Life

Any idea of life span of the timing chains on the 5.4?

If you get 100,000 your doing good. It seems like the followers get wear grooves that the tensioner can't take up. I've changed a few at about 75,000 miles that were worn enough to start slapping.

Thanks, what is the typical length of time for this job?

Sorry for the late reply. Seems like it took me about 4-6 hrs. Lots of stuff to take off. The timing cover is BIG and cumbersome. If you buy a kit (recommend that you do) it should have detailed instructions on installing the chains. That was the hardest part for me, trying to match the colored link with the marks on the sprockets.
