Tire size and mileage

It is almost time for me to go in for new tires. I am wanting to upgrade to BFG ATs in something like a 285 to 305 size. Just wondering what mileage I can expect with the larger tires...?

I am currently getting about 14 mpg on the highway empty with the 4.30 gears. Not bad for this big of a truck, but the truck is BEGGING me for taller tires!

Whatchall think?

Dan

Re: Tire size and mileage

Don't beg too much for those big tires. I get 6-8MPG, but I'm hauling ASS!

Re: Tire size and mileage

I have 305's currently and lost about 1 mpg....I get about 13 hwy now and that is driving it real easy keeping speeds under 65-70 mph. I'm in the process of getting my 35's so I will probably lose maybe 1-2 more mpg but that is the price that you pay going large I guess.

Re: Tire size and mileage

Dan, I put 285 Cooper Discoverer ATs on my V10 Excursion about a month ago. Mileage (10-13mpg) didn't seem to change much one way or the other. They look much better in the wheel wells though. I'm running about 50# front and rear. If I aired up to 60 or so it might do better, but I'm enjoying the ride to much to try wriggling out a little better mpg.

Re: Tire size and mileage

I run 315's (35" equivalent) and my milage is not bad: 10-11.5 in town and about 14 on the freeway running about 70 mph.
