TORQUE SHIFT QUESTION

When did Ford start using the 5 speed auto in the gas 3/4&1 ton trucks
How much better will a 3/4 ton v-10 pull than a 1998 x cab with 5.4
3.55 rear and 4r100 trans.
I have a travel trailer that I can use but it is 7200# gross and that
is a little much for the truck I have and I may want to upgrade to a
larger truck but can not afford a diesel.

Re: TORQUE SHIFT QUESTION

My 05 V10 Torqueshift pulls my 12000 pound Fiver very well. My fiver is a high profile 13 foot high unit. My combined weight is 20800 .
I can pull 6% grades at 50 MPH with more revs left if I want to go faster. I have 4.10 gears and like them although most people feel the 4.30s are even better. These are the only two ratios available in an 05 F350 V10, not sure about the newer ones.
With a V10 and 4.30s you get a 23000 GCWR,same as the PSD but because the V10 is 500 pounds lighter, you can legally tow more with a V10.
I have owned 3 PSDs, 95 and 2000 7.3s were great , my 04 sick oh was a lemon. This 05 V10 is my all time favorite. 500 pounds less weight up front makes it handle much better than a PSD. It burns about 20% more fuel than my 04 sick oh. No big deal now that gas is cheaper.
I would never own a PSD after warranty runs out. This V10 I hope to keep a very long time. There are some good deals on used V10s because so many feel the V10 is a gas pig. The 460 was a gas pig. The V10 is not bad if you keep your foot out of it and in a heavy model like mine, F350 CC LB 4X4 7200 pounds empty, a 5.4 will be underpowered and get very litte extra mileage out of a gal of gas. Good Luck.

Yeah right. I've compared fuel mileage with 4 other V10 owners and my 460 is getting minimum 4 miles to the gallon better than their new V10 plus I have more displacement. It is a 97 F250 XtndCab, 4x4 that gets 15 highway and 10 around town. I know dang well your V10 isn't even coming close. Now, if you put a trailer on the back of my truck the mileage is HORRIBLE. Pulling a 9,000 pound load, skid steer loader, I was lucky to get 6 mpg highway. That's why I now own an 04 F350 PSD that gets my F250 around town mileage pulling a 10,000# load.

Re: TORQUE SHIFT QUESTION

I had an 88 F250 4x4 460. That was the first year for EFI. I had a 26' mid profile fiver around 8000 pounds so my combined weight was around 14000 pounds. The 460 was a dog and made the same as Newto dieseling's 460 pulling a Skid steer.....around 6 MPH.

My 05 F350 pulls a 33 foot high profile fiver 12300 pounds, my combined weight is 20800 and gets as high as 8 MPG.

I had 3 diesels, my 95 7.3 and 2000 7.3s were great and I posted on this site as Diesel Don. My 04 sick-oh was a piece of crap and you could not pay me enough to own another sick-oh.
