Towing upgrades while still protecting warranty

For both warranty related issues and cost of upgrade issue, what do you think of these upgrades? Most of my driving is city, empty driving. I want these mods. for when I tow on weekends and vacations. I do tow heavy on those occasions. About 19500GVW. I dont want to put alot of money in mods or run any potential warranty liability issues.

1. Drop in K&N air filter.
2. Mobil 1 synthetic tranny oil.
3. Tranny temp gauge
4. Xlerator muffler.
5. Hypertech PPIII. Leave on 87octane setting. Possibly change to 91octane setting for heavy hill towing after I see what performance increase I get with the 87octane setting.

Re: Towing upgrades while still protecting warranty

I think #2 and #3 are a must if your towing something that heavy. #1 and #4 are good... #5 I just have to say I love my SMCT and have read the PPIII isn't as good.

I agree with Wade, go with the synthetic tranny fluid and get a real gauge. I think the programmer might work out well for you if it isn't too hard to change from tow mode to regular mode.

Re: Towing upgrades while still protecting warranty

I am looking for info on that Xlerator muffler. Does it have a web site or something?
Thanks for the scoop!

Re: Towing upgrades while still protecting warranty

I dont know if they have a site or not. The muffler shop who sells both the Xlerator and the Flowmaster claims that the Xlerator will be quieter than the Flowmaster but doesnt have the restrictions that the OEM has. This particular shop wanted 140.00 installed.
Mike

On edit: It apparently is made by Goerlich. Their website doesnt really get into much on the performance of the muffler. The muffler shop did say you get alittle drone from it but no cabin noise. It has a baffle in it I believe where the Flowmaster doesnt. However, since there are several models of the Flowmaster, one of those might be compatible to the xlerator.
