TRANNY QUESTION PLEASE......WHAT AM I LOOKING AT?

Hi all. I own a 5.4 E-350 SD. I pulled the engine cover (console) and discovered that on the tranny looking down what appears to be a leak coming from a (relief valve or something). It is on the very top of the trans when the engine cover is off. What is it? It has some sort of cap on it, Thats what makes me think its some sort of relief valve. I am probably wrong but any help with what it is would be GREAT so I can solve this problem. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]

It's a vent. If the trans is overfilled or gets really hot some fluid will come out. Is it a lot of fluid, or is it just wet near the vent? If it's just a little moist you can ignore it as long as it isn't overfilled.

I sent my guy to a valvoline oil change place and I bet you are correct! I will check when I get to the shop in AM, Thank you. Frank.
