There is a field modification that actually enlarges the oil passage holes in or from the pan area to increase cooling/oil flow (restrictions?) to the planetary gears and clutches. I still am looking for detailed info, but a buddy of mine works at Gold Coast Transmissions and Ford sent it to them to perform when doing a warranty job to keep from having the same burned out gear/clutch problems. They actually drill the(m) little hole(s) out and he said it works great and they never have a problem after that even when towing max weights for alot of miles (over 100K). Problem is, Ford won't cover this modification(s), even under warranty. They will only perform it and Ford will only cover it if there is other warranty work to be done on the transmission. Aftermarket warranties will cover it from what I was told by GCT. Seems to me they would do it to prevent lost $$ on this type of failure. I will desperately try to get the mod and paperwork to put on this board. Sounds like a good modification to do if towing hard...Anyone out there heard of this, had it done or know anything about it or to the contrary?
