Triton Power?

I'm relatively new to this truck stuff, but I'm trying to learn the lingo. What does Triton mean? I thought it was the Ford gassers but I'm confused after going to the SD Ford site, http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/superduty/exterior/
and mousing over the two engine hotspots. One shows something that looks like a V10 and says:
Triton™ power delivers 90% of its torque below 2,000 rpm where you need it most.

Well then who needs PSDs? Is this a mistake or am I missing something?
I know it gets 425@3250, could it be getting 382@1999?

thanks for any clarification,

Re: Triton Power?

Yes at 2000rpms the V10 is about 400fps of torque..
Of course the PSD about 500fps at 2k rpms..

The Tritons refer to Fords 4.6L and 5.4L v8's and 6.8l V10..

Re: Triton Power?

With 3.73 gears, 265/75R16 or 235/85R16 tires and the 0.70:1 OD fourth gear, the V10 doesn't turn much over 2,000 rpm at 70 mph!

Re: Triton Power?

I've got 4.30's and I turn 3K at 80. Best mileage I've ever gotten is 14 though.
Depends on what you're in to, but I think the power gain from the 4.30's are worth, truck jumps like I never dreamed it would.

Re: Triton Power?

Oh, so the drivetrains are designed to milk that last 10% and thats why the V10 is reved up at 70mph. Since I have a relatively low GVCW in mind (3K camper, 2K tow), it would seem to make more sense for me to go with the 3.73 rear. Too bad a 2.73 is not offered, I could just be thumping along at 2K rpm.
