I reset the overhead on our new 03 EX. We have only been able to drive in the city since then. It is showing 9.3 but it was aroud 8.8 for a while. I was sort of expecting a fairly steady 11 mpg. Should I check something out of is this about the norm for city driving? ( stock 265's, 3:73's)

Depends on your type of city driving. I've owned both an 00 and 03 4wd Excursion with V10, 3.73 and 265's. Optimal near 11 mpg in stop and go 12 - 15 mile trips, no freeway. Short trips around neighborhood and colder weather will yeild 9 mpg. Overall you should get 10 city and a solid 14 mpg on highway. That's as good as it gets. Don't trust the overhead console until you've verified it's accuracy with a manual calculation, either. Mine swings as much as 1 mpg in either direction depending on how I'm using the truck. I've kept a complete fuel log since the truck was new, and I've recorded and reset the O/H console at each fillup.
Just got back from fianlly being able to take a freeway trip. About 100 miles up then back. Reset overhead and it climbed up to a high of 13.7 but with a bit of in town, up some grades then down seemed to settle in at 13.5. I'm sure it will slid back down a bit, but courious what the 1000k running average will settle in at.

When you are in the mpg mode, press and hold both buttons just long enough to see it jump to zero. !st time I tried it I also had reset the compass which means you have to drive in a circle or two untill the "reset" word goes out.

I've got an 05 F-250 CC 4x4 with 4.30 gears (I think, I don't have the sticker in front of me and I"m drawing a blank - damn old age!). I get consistently 10-11 mpg in city driving, aboun 9 on the highway towing 8500 lbs of boat and trailer at 75 mph. Pretty happy with the mileage considering the size and capability of the vehicle; if I would've wanted 35 mpg, I would've bought a Focus.

Wow. These Dealers here scared me away from a V-10. I went to 2 different dealers and both were telling me how the v-10's burn a hole in your pocket with the gas mileage. From what you guys are saying its really not that bad huh? My impression was 7-8 MPG highway, after talking to those dealers..

Let me guess, they suggested the $5200 psd option as a fuel saver? You think they make more money on the PSD? More money on your loan? Takes about 150k to break even depending on fuel prices, etc.
I have a 99 V10 3:73 with 315's. I get 11 around town and about 13 on the road. Probably could do better with a taller axle. And I also had my speedo recalibrated so my numbers are correct.

Highway, the V10 can get as high as 15MPG. I've done it, many times.
Stop-and-go, if I drive it like I want to, 5-7!
If I'm easy on it stop-and-go, I can break 10MPG.
That's pretty good for ANY gasser in a 6000-7000lbs truck.
Our 2003 Ex got 15-16 consistently on the highway. The problem was around town 10. We got rid of it in a scare that it's value would drop like a rock after it was terminated by ZFord and that all of our equity would be lost. We gambled and sold it. Now, I see it still would have held it's value, even despite the high gas prices. Currently, I am looking at the V-10 in a Superduty for my next purchase. Even though the dealer tells me he will give me $1000 to $1500 less for a V-10 at trade time (less than KBB), I'm still considering it.
