I never tow real heavy, but I had a Diesel dodge crew cab at 8,000# on it just recently. My truck has a 19' steel rollback bed on it, so it was right at 20,000# GVW. It towed great. not a ton of power in reserve, but plenty enough for passing the slow pokes. I caught it doing up to 75 a couple times, but I was trying to keep it at 65 because of the heavy load on 6 tires. It sure rode like a Caddy though!
I'm coming up on 91,000 miles over the past 7 1/2 years. I've never wanted more power, and still feels like I've got plenty left as it hits the speed limiter.

IMHO the V10 is Bullitproof I have two and they run everyday one has over 160k miles and the other 30k miles Not one major problem....
Power is always there....

I just recently sold my '99 V-10, it had 185K miles. All I did in that time was change the spark plugs at 110K miles and replace the A/C compressor at 175K. Never an oil leak.
I changed the oil every 3K miles using Valvoline 10w30 and Fram filters.
For the last 60K miles or so I used it in my pool cleaning business so it started and stopped about 25 times a day, sometimes more.
I think I had a vacuum leak somewhere towards the end, though. It would struggle to hold an idle when cold and the idle RPM would dance around a little. But nothing terrible.
I had to have the dealer hunt for a V-10 in my new '09, they had to go to Oklahoma to get it, but I wouldn't have anything else... certainly not a V-8! Not in a Crew Cab Super Duty...
Owned a "00" Excursion with the V10, ran great never a problem, traded for an "06" F250 CC XLT Auto 4.10 rear, 45k, runs greats, milage sucks, but my wife loves it. Tows well, not nearly as well as my "04" F350 DRW 6.0, but gets the job done. When we had our choice of the V8 or V10 the wife wanted what she had in her "Ex".
We only have 75K miles on our 2001 Excursion with the V10 and it has not lost any power at all. Actually it could afford to lose some because if you don't set the cruise out on the highway it will get you a ticket FAST. That big Excusrion likes 85 MPH a lot better than 65 MPH.
I have a customer that has just gone over 350K mikes in a work van with the V10 and he loves it.
What sold me on it from the beginning was all the RV's running the V10.
If you are towing under 10K lbs it is a real good option to a diesel.
Good luck
