V-10 engine problem on Funmover?

Just borrowed a friends fun mover on I think it was a E-450 frame? Anyway we went from Charlotte NC to just outside Bermingham (sp?) Alabama for a 24hr. Hairscramble race. The problem was anytime we let the motorhome sit and then cold star the engine would NOT idle till warm (V-10) After about 10-15 minutes of driving it will finally idle. It makes a REAL problem for going around the tight TIGHT parking lots at a motocross track or even in the general tight areas of a small town. Having to keep your foot on the gas and brake while trying to turn is not fun. Any ideas of what could cause something like this?

Re: V-10 engine problem on Funmover?

I agree that it probably is the IAC valve. Very common problem on all fords. Usually you can just take it off and clean it with carb/brake cleaner and Q tips and put it back on. Had to do this on my moms explorer twice. So far my v10 has been ok so I can't remember exactly where it is. It's bolted on the throttle body but not in the same place on all engines. Someone posted a picture of it on a v10 one time but I don't know where. Very easy to do.

Try cleaning the carbon out of it first. It's silver, about the size of a 35 mm film canister and is located on the back of the throttle body plenum.

My local Ford dealer wants ~$110 for a new one. You can buy an aftermarket one through Autozone for around $60-70, but it may take a day or two to order it.
