v-10 sound vs v-8

New to the world of V10's. New truck coming end of March. With the money saved from buying the PSD I am planning some mods right of the bat. Probably will go with the Banks Powerpack and do it all at once. I am a little technically challenged so please go easy on me here. Why does a V10 sound wimpy compared to a V8. I have not heard a modified V10, but have been listening to V8's for years....All the comments on this sight make the 10's sound less then impressive.

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

Dave,

First off, I love my V10. It's smooth and powerful and the mpg is livable. As far as why a v10 puts out such an odd sound, it was explained to me that there is always a cylindar firing, so no time for resonance, therefor no rumble.

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

I think its all a matter of preference. I've heard a V-10 with a dual side out single inlet Borla, and it sounded awesome! Nothing like a V-8, but not like a six either.

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

It's all do to firing order and RPM.

Think about it, a V-8 and V-10 both idle at ~800RPM. So a V-8 fires 3,200 times and a V-10 fires 4,000 times. The V-8 would have to be idling at 1,000 RPM to equal the same number of combustions. Then there is the order. I've heard others here state that either the Dodge of the Ford fire two calendars at the sate time, so effectively it should be more like a V-5?

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

Hey, those who have done the exhaust mods, does the v-10 sound like the viper v-10? That motor sounds incredible at Daytona! (on tv not yet in person) I have considered removing the muffler like several others have on this site, but I havn't heard a truck with this done so I don't know.

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

I installed an Edlebrock Highflow muffler and it sounds very good. A low rumble at idle and somewhat louder during acceleration. Not too loud though to draw attention.

Good Luck

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

I just heard a V10 with a three chambered Flowmaster and dual pipes out the back. It sounded pretty damn good. Kind of like a V8 but it was smoother, there wasn't a lope to it. I think I'm going to get that done to mine, although I may go with a two chamber cause I like a little more noise.

Re: v-10 sound vs v-8

Is their any sound clips anywhere to compare different exhaust sounds like Borla, Gibson or Flowmasters for the V-10. I'd sure like to hear some before I upgrade my exhaust system. Thanks
