I know what you mean. I'm real pleased with the V-10 MPG, and yes, it's also getting better than my Expedition with the 5.4. You can see both the 5.4 Exp. and the 6.8 SD MPG reports at the "My MPG File's" link in my signature. On the Super Duty you will also see the notes on what type of driving was done on the tank.
The reports are all accurate and real. I tend to drive the truck with care when making a distance Highway trip, so the MPG's are probably as good as they will ever be. When driving localy I tend to get on it a little more (more start and stops to punch it from).
Based on all the 99/99.5 MPG reports I had read before ordering/delivery I was convinced that the lower power V-10's didn't have enough power to take advantage of the highway gears and expected the 2000 to finaly get better MPG's with the 3.73's. The pre-2000 V-10's didn't see any real difference in MPG between gear set's so most were happyer with the tow gears.
Well, I too have a Y2K SD F-250 SC with a V-10. I'm very pleased with it so far. As of this point, I only have 1700 miles on the truck. As far as a PSD, I chose not to buy one for my specific uses. If anyone wants/needs a PSD, I think that they made the right choice for themselves. The main thing is WE are all Ford owners.
I just passed 2000 miles on my V-10 Super Duty and have been nothing but pleased with the truck. I have found the V-10 to be even better than when I first started looking at whether to get the V-10 or the PSD. Of course, the additional HP and Torque on the 2000's has certainly helped. I chose the V-10 because I spend most of the time empty, I love the V-10 compared to the V-8 and fewer than 1 in 5 of the gas stations around me carry diesel. I also liked the better acceleration of the V-10 vs. the PSD when I test drove both. I think the PSD is a great truck, and had I needed the truck to do a significant amount of towing, I definitely would have gotten one. But the best part of having the Super Duty are the envious looks of the Dodge owners as I pass them by...

All I can add to the equasion is that if you bought a V-10 for performance, do not be shocked if you get smoked by a PSD with a chip..
The stock performance of a PSD, especially before it reaches full temperature is disappointing, but I still can't believe the performance gain with the chip.
In your previous post you mention that a PSD with a chip could beat a stock V-10 in acceleration. Well, that may be so but why not take that one step further...I bet a PSD with a chip wouldn't beat a V-10 with a chip! Afterall, let's not compare "apples to oranges" The PSD is for towing, and I tow nothing. Therefore I chose the V-10 for the better "get-go" around town.

How about a PSD with a chip vs a V10 with a supercharger!
I think the PSD is in trouble there - and the investment would be about the same.
Currently I'm having trouble justifying my diesel. I'm only getting 16MPG, diesel fuel is 10 cents more a gallon, and the cost of maintenance is higher.
Oh well... at least it smells and sounds good!
