V-8 vs. V-10 Comparision ?

Went to visit the folks today. The most major hill on the way home is about 7% over a mile long on a straight section of highway. My SD has the 5.4/6spd/4.10's. I pulled the hill in 4th gear (not OD) most of the entire length running about 68 mph at 3000 rpms. Motor felt wound out, any more felt like it would have strained the V-8.

How would a V-10/6spd/4.30's do incomparision? I see that the V-10 maxs out torque at 3250 rpms. At what rpm does the V-10 start to strain?

Thanks -Fred

Re: V-8 vs. V-10 Comparision ?

Redline or when the rev limiter kicks in. I have the auto transmission and the truck shifts at 4800 rpm at which point it's still pulling strong. The nice thing about the V-10 is you don't have to wind it up, all that torque is availiable at low rpms. I finally got to go and do a little highway driving today and I have to say its just so effortless to cruise 70-80mph.
