V10 or 7.3 ??

I have been towing a 5th wheel (wt 12k)with a 7.3 diesel. Am now considering a 350SD,DWD,w/v10. Never towed with a gas engine. Does anyone have info on a comparison of the two engines.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: V10 or 7.3 ??

Is the 7.3 you're using now the older non-turbo or the new Powerstroke? I bought the V10 because I DON'T tow the weight you do, don't drive many miles and don't like the smell and noise of diesel. I would probably go Powerstroke if I were hauling that heavy of a trailer. The V10 has lots of power and does a good job at what it's made for, but unless you only tow 2-3k a year I would think the diesel is better for you. Only my opinion.

Re: V10 or 7.3 ??

Yes, the V10 has as much 'guts' as the PSD, and with the 4.30 rear it technically has a higher towing capacity than the PSD..

BUT..
I've never heard of anyone who says the V10 tows 'better' than the PSD.. If you currently have a PSD, and don't mind the diesel maintenance, oil changes, smell and noise, then I think you'd be more satisfied with the PSD..

Re: V10 or 7.3 ??

Can't compare the two but, I currently tow an 11k (actual weight,12.5k gross)lb triple slide fiver with my 01 350 CC V10 w/4.30 gears.Towed very well, since last trip I have installed the Banks Powerpack with Trans Command.Power now is tremendous, can't wait to pull the trailer in a month or so.But I still believe for all out towing power, the 7.3PSD is the ultimate.

Re: V10 or 7.3 ??

Dave, the only compairison I have experianced is going camping with a friend, whenever we get to a hill of any kind, I leave him in the dust. I have a older PSD w/auto and he's driving a 460 w/5sp, I'm towing a 33' double slide 5th and he's towing a 25' travel that weights fairly close to half the weight of mine.
I still have plenty of other diesels passing me too, mine is stock and no intercooler.

Re: V10 or 7.3 ??

If you tow heavy and often, the PSD IMO is the better choice.
