i too am looking for something..... the 10% gain of a chip might be nice, but isn't totally necessary to me.....
so..... chip or truspeed? i mostly would like to get those firmer shifts and fix my speedo/odo.
from what i can tell, the truspeed will run me about 200 bucks less than the chip.... i'd really like to have me one of those nice Hypertech PPIII programers in my hot little hands and hear they will be making them "one day" for us gassers in the v10's..... but i need a fix sooner than later....
so.... truspeed, superchip, or diablosport chip??? how about some info and opinions from you guys that have em! and it'd be really great to hear from ppl that have tried more than one and why they switched.
oh.. one more thing..... will the truspeed mess with my warranty? i hear the chip won't, but wonder if all the wire splicing might have an effect with the truspeed?

1) Superchip or Diablo
2) Improved shifts and better acceleration. Some remove the speed limiter so you can go 100+mph.
3) The Superchip is just a blue "thing" that you plug into the trucks computer port from the outside. The Diablo looks more like a computer circuit board and fits inside the factory computer even though it connects to the same place as the Superchip.
4) Installation is easy... takes about an hour if you go slow and be very careful. It took me about 15 minutes to do my third install (on different vehicles).l
5) No, you can not just hook up a computer and modify the program. Well, if you have an EPROM reader/burner and some tuning skills, I guess you could. But the best answer is that you have to send the "chip" back to the manufacturer for them to make changes.
6) The Superchip and Diablo do require "high-octane" fuel.

Not sure about Diablo, but Superchips can make programming corrections to the speedometer. So, you can have both power and accuracy!
I think there is some debate on whether a chip will void your warranty or not. In fact, WChain, a member here (PSD owner) is "discussing" with Ford the possibility that his chip contributed to his blown engine. Ford says "YES" and he should pay for the $12,000 engine. The chip (all aftermarket) salesmen always speak of the M-M warranty act and how you are "protected by law", but if the engine or tranny hits the crapper, it's just you, the dealership and Ford. My guess is that spliced wires would be just as obvious as the error codes and "clean" contacts of the factory computer when an aftermarket chip has been installed.
You wanna play... you "may" have to pay!

I had been looking pretty hard at getting either a Diablosport or Superchip for my V10, but after talking to a lot of people, I have decided to go with a Banks Powerpack. It is considerably more money, but I don't have to run 92+ octane, and nearly everyone who goes with headers and exhaust upgrades notices a difference. About half the people I talked to with a chip says they notice a difference and the ther half say, yeah maybe a little. Thats my take on it, good luck.

I had a Diablo chip in my truck. Had being the key word. But I returned it not because of the way it enhanced performance in daily driving. In everyday driving the chip was noticable and made the truck more responsive and "peppier". It did require high octane fuel.
The Diablo firmed up the shift points wonderfully and added power. How much power I don't know...no pre/post dyno numbers...but I could feel a difference. No noticable mileage gains.
The Diablo took about an hour to install and was not a difficult process. I did have to call for help once and I received fantastic customer service. The people there were professional, friendly, and more than helpful.
I returned the chip because I needed more "umph" in towing. It did not provide what I had hoped for.
I miss the firmer shifts, though.
You can run 87 octane and get the harder shifts, but lose the power boost the 91+ gives you.
I am going to try lower gears and a more open exhaust for my towing/power needs and stay with the 87 octane fuel.
If you want a chip for a quicker and more responsive driving, the Diablo is a good choice. Upon installation, I took a test run down the road and came back wearing a smile. The chip was just not enough help for my towing needs.

Happy Thanksgiving all! Thanks for all the prompt responses.
I already have a K&N GenII and a Flowmaster 40 series so I was looking for the next purchase on making this thing faster. Not to say that my truck is slow, you guys know that these V10s are already fast. I just want to have more. You can never have enough... Especially once this isn't my daily driver anymore. The headers would probably next as well with the chip. Still undecided about which chip, I would have to do a little more research and see what you guys say. So keep it coming. The Diablo is sure sounding nice.
As for the octane rating. After driving the past year with 87 because of the California $2.25/gal 91 octane, I finally switched back to 91 because it is now down to $1.40/gallon. I can't believe what a difference it makes. It takes off faster, smoother and it feels like it wants to go fast. Just like how it did when I first made the mods when it was new. Same feeling as having a fresh synthetic oil change. The 87 ocatne was causing it to kinda bog down like one of my tires was low or something. Felt like a bad tune up or something also. But we just went up 8'000ft to Tahoe with the 91 gas and it climbed and climbed. Drove around up here and it is great. I'll never put on anything less than 91 again. I myself made my truck slower... Good thing it was able to go back to running smooth again.
Sorry to change the subject, but...
Do you have a .wav file for the Flowmaster 40 series muffler on your truck? I would like to get a better tone on mine, but not sure what to use. Some tell me that the best I can get is a V-6 on steroids sound. I'd leave it muffled down before doing that. I used to run straight pipe on my 92 f150 with a 302 and that wasn't too bad. Any good info you have on the differences in Flowmaster Series would be helpful too. Thanx.
A month ago I bought a new Tru-speed. I don't plan on using it, so I'll sell it for $180 including the shipping. I paid around $200 for the unit.
Let me know---Eric
The only way I know to record a .wav file is to first record it onto a tape recorder, then play it into the microphone for the PC using Windows Media Player in your accessories to record the file. As far as posting on the site, I'm not sure. I guess you could e mail it out on request.
