V10 Cold Weather Problems

During all this cold weather my V10 97 E350 has ran fine until a few days ago. It started on the way to work. I was waiting at a stop sign to pull on to the main street and it died. I had it in gear with foot on the brake and it was like the ignition switch was turned off. It restarted instantly and ran fine the rest of the way to work. Last night I was waiting at a stoplight and the RPM dropped almost to the point of stalling and then shot up to a very fast idle then back down low and back up again. Then it returned to a normal idle and ran fine the rest of the way. The check engine light has not came on and the gages (what a joke) have been acting normal. I'm afraid to take it to the dealer with such a intermittent problem and pay him to tell me he can't find it. Has anyone had this problem with their V10? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: V10 Cold Weather Problems

On a very cold Colorado day, when I was getting ready to pull in to a parking spot at work, my V10 acted the exact same way. It just shut off. I have a 5 spd so I had the clutch in. Also, I was turning, so maybe the power steering pump robbed the engine of life...I am not sure...because it has only happened once, I am not going to worry about it...

Re: V10 Cold Weather Problems

When I had my 99 V10 the same thing happened to me. With my V10 the computer showed no error codes.

A while later my air bypass valve failed. This caused the truck not to start all the time. Also this failure did not cause an error code. After being towed in once and two other times at the dealership, I finally convinced the dealership to change the valve even though there was no error code. This was a well documented problem F**d was having with this part but no TSB.

To make a long story short after this was replaced my stalling and almost staling problem disappeared. Do not know if the two were connected but it is an idea.

I maybe naming the part wrong so here is the part number YC2Z-9F715-AA and the gaskett F7UZ-9F670-AB. Hope this helps.

Re: V10 Cold Weather Problems

Thanks for the info. I think I will check into changing the bypass valve myself.
