V10 Excursion - white smoke?

like it says, I have a '01 Excursion with the V-10 and 128K miles. in the last 5K miles or so I have noticed a lot more white smoke from the tailpipe during start-up and don't know what to look for?

Also, if the truck has been sitting for more than 24hrs when I go to start it up is sounds like it is almost backfiring or has excessive fuel and causes a small burst (explosion for lack of a better word) when it first starts up? any ideas that can help me out?

Re: V10 Excursion - white smoke?

Is the smoke pure white or is there a bluish tint to it? I believe that blue smoke means oil is burning and white smoke means coolant is burning. Must have been about 20 years ago I was driving a car and tons of white smoke began pouring out of the tailpipe. If I remember correctly it was a blown head gasket allowing coolant into the cylinders.
