When I got my 06' V10 I decided that a "cat back" would be a big waste of money. The factory pipes are very large and don't have any sharp bends in them so I just bought a Stainless Flowmaster 50 and had a shop put it in place of the factory muffler and reuse everything else. It's a known fact that you can't make a V10 sound like a V8 but it's not bad. If I was doing it again I would get the 40 series instead because it's still not very loud to me.

I passed on the cat-back kits too. I used a Dynomax Super turbo muffler. Here is pics of my homemade install: The sound is a little loud raspy roar. Typical for the V10. Don't expect much performance wise.

I don't want any cab drone with an aftermarket exhaust, nor do I want it to sound like it is sucking air. I may be better off just sticking to stock.
I noticed on my stock exhaust when I accelerate hard in my truck it sounds like the exhaust is struggling to get the gasses out. Almost like the exhaust is to small or stopped up. The exhaust still pops and pings like crazy when it starts getting warm and the truck has over 7,000 miles on it now so I thought that would kinda quieten down some but it has not.
I also thought about getting a stock muffler from a harley davidson F150 with the single in and dual out openings, pending the pipe size would work. This would maybe keep the truck at a stock sound, and give me a different look with the exhaust tips.
If you like it quiet, I have a Borla Stainless dual system and it has been great.

i dont know much about the v10s but i had a f250 with a 5.4 and took it to a muffler shop. i had duals without muffler installed and it sounded awsome. it was pretty loud behind the truck but inside wasnt too much louder than stock.

[/ QUOTE ] had a guy here in starke put a set of bank's header's on his 5.4,i think it was the passanger side that had the 180 degree bend in the manifold, ford was useing the same manifold on both side's of the motor, one side was swept stright back, the other side had the 180 degree bend in it how ever this was back in a 1999,don't know if this would work on a v10,if it would it would get rid of back pressure eliminating the tight bend, better have a look at your manifold's, now that i think about it i also had a guy with a gas class A motor home with a v10 that did this so they do make this kit for the V10.

My FM 50 series is not too loud under normal acceleration but under WOT it gets pretty loud. The 70 series which is what flowmaster recommends for the V10. I opted for the 50 because I thought the 70 might be too quiet but if I did it again I would go with the 70 series.

Can you get the Borla for the 06? I couldn't find it listed.
I had the Borla on my 04 F150 and really liked it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes it is listed on Borla's website.
