Please V10 guys, answer these questions and lets keep the info together in this thread so we can figure out our problem.
1. Does your V10 have flutter?
2. Do you have CA emissions?
3. If you don't have ca emissions please measure the entrance of your cat to the first
flange after the "rams horns". (I'm trying to dtermine if its different as one theory suggests).
4. What have you been told causes flutter and by whom?
5. Have you done any exhaust mods and if so,
have they helped.

As to what causes the flutter ford is not sure, but they do know it is in the y pipe. It is not in all V10 according to what our Ford dealer has told me it is the fireing order of the V10 and the exhust system makes a standing wave which is the flutter.

Lovn' everything but the payment!
Yep..got the flutter. Truck looks like it was originally sold in Canada. (It's got Canadian D.O.T. stickers in the door jambs and other "Canada" stuff....so I don't think it has the CA emissions equipment.) I bought the truck used.
It flutters around 2000rpm under load..the more the load, the WORSE it is....VERY noticeable. If under no load or very little load, the flutter is barely noticeable at 2000 rpm.
Seems to do it different altitudes too...in the mountains or here near my home. Haven't driven yet it at sea-level though.
I got 27,000 mi on it and it had 18,000 mi on it when I got it but I don't remember hearing the flutter when I first got it....probably because I didn't know what flutter was and the entrire truck was so new to me and thrilling that I probably didn't pay attention to it.
The distance of the pipe from the weld-joint on the y-pipe to the flange of the cat is about 37". (Trying my best to hold a tape measure along the curves of the pipe)
Also, I was able to reduce my flutter sound slightly by cutting off the heat shield on the y-pipe. Mine would rattle if I banged on it so I simply just cut it off and tossed it.
That took care of some of the "metallic" sound, but the actual flutter is still there.
Mine's the super-cab, short-bed. Do the longer or shorter trucks do it too?
