v10 has no oil pressure

I bought a 2001 model truck with a v10. I am planning a diesel swap in it unless I can get it running right. It pours out smoke and makes no oil pressure. Any suggestions or should I just go ahead and pull it out to swap it?

Could be a number of issues. First, I would run some diesel, about a quart or two in the engine oil. Rislone will work too, but it's alot more expensive. Could be that there is just a bunch of crud plugging up the oil pickup.

Thanks for the reply, I will give it a try. Guess I couldn't hurt much. How often does the bypass in the oil filter stick open? Would a new oil filter possibly make a difference? It gets some oil pressure sometimes, but it usually won't stay.

A friend of mine put in a gallon of kero into the crankcase before changing the oil every so often to clean out engine. He never ran it past two minutes to keep from damaging the bearings. You can try this and get a manual oil pressure gauge to get a real reading to see if it made any difference. good luck.
