V10 heater shut off valve

A while ago I read an article about putting a manual shut off valve in the heater supply hose off the water pump. The idea is to stop the heated water going through the coils and thus make vent air hotter and make the AC work harder. I have not been able to find that article again and was wondering if someone can direct me to where that might be.
Any input on doing this mod would be appreciated. I am thinking about doing it to my 1993 302 E150 as well.
What valve was used? one guy I think put a Ford Pinto heater valve in his but any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Andrew.

Re: V10 heater shut off valve

Is there one that would shut off the hot water flow in "vent" mode?

Re: V10 heater shut off valve

I think the reason for the heated air from the vents is due to the heat-soaking of the ducting. The V10 sits back in the engine compartment quite a bit.

Take Care

Re: V10 heater shut off valve

My version of the 'shut off valve' will stop the flow in the vent position. Check my "PICS" using the link in my sig to see how I installed the mod. It is the third picture in the top row.

I have found that it does make a difference, especially in the fall and spring when the outside temp is cool enough to not warrant A/C. Without the mod, the 'vent' air is much warmer than the outside air. With the mod the 'vent' air is still a little warmer than the outside air due to the engine heat in the engine compartment heating up the duct work.
