v10 rough idle & oil pressure gauge

Great site, First post here, got a few questions.

2000 f250 v10 crew cab 4x4 96k,

I just came back from a 800 mile vacation. Now my check engine light is on and it run really rough at idle, like it is surging or has a wild cam, It does drive fine when up to speed. I have been searching on the forums here seems like IAC maybe? I also filled up with mid grade instead of regular about the time this started.

Second prob. When the truck first starts, sometimes the oil pressure gauge will not move at all and the oil pressure light stays on. All I have done each time this happens is shut the truck down and restart it and it will pick it up fine (I have had it take 2 or 3 starts sometimes, this prob started a week ago and has only happened about 3 times)

And a third. On the mountain roads during the trip, I had to make very sharp turns (max radius), when I would do this I could hear a clicking or grabbing noise from the front end, like pop pop pop pop. It sounded similar to hubs grabbing like their not locked in all the way. 4x4 was off, I even stopped put in neutral and reverse but it still does it, only on pavement. I have auto locking hubs too. I only hear it when just about max turning on pavement.

Thanks all for a reply, I just got this truck 5k miles ago for a real good price, and have not had a problem until now. Hopefully I can make her last me another 150k

KRABILL -

First off, welcome to the site. There's lots of good info here, but as with any collection of "experts" - there's also some mis-information to watch out for.

#1 - The rough idle is a classic symptom of the IAC having a problem. Some have removed and cleaned the IAC with good results, some needed to replace theirs. My truck had this problem when new only during rainy weather. A quick "throat clearing" with the throttle would clear it up. The problem went away on its own after six months or so.

#2 - I don't have a known cause for your oil pressure indication, but here's how the guage works: The guage is a mechanical idiot light. There are only two positions - low or off, and mid way between low and high. A simple pressure switch drives this guage and acts as an input to the engine management computer. The guage will rise to mid-stroke and the input will go on when pressure rises above 7 PSI. the gauge and input will reset if the pressure falls below about 5 PSI. I'd look at the wiring in the sending unit for this type of problem.

#3 - Sorry, I drive a 4 X 2, so my knowledge of any 4 X 4 related items is limited.

#1 - This might be a long shot but it might be a bad coil. I had a coil go bad and the engine would run rough at idle but at higher rpm's I didn't really notice it. I agree with Homegrown though that the IAC would be the first place to start.
