When I first start my truck in the morning (and not even every morning) it misses and stalls when I give it gas for the first few seconds...after I force it thru the stalling and missing, it takes off just fine and runs great the rest of the day...
Any ideas?
The truck only has 10K miles on it...
I have a clean, oiled K&N in it and I checked that sensor in the air intake after the filter...it was nice and clean...
If its not the mass airflow sensor which are notorious for getting screwed up with aftermarket filter oil, I'd say its your IAC (idle air control) valve. They have a bad reputation. Probably the most common problem with the V10. It doesn't throw a code, so your dealer probably won't replace it under warranty until it's totally out. When it does go all the way out, you just need to drive two footed to keep fuel flowing when you're braking, etc... PITA. Anyway, hope this helps.
Some times when I first start my rig in the morning and put it into gear to back up it almost cuts out. I give it some gas and once I start to move it is fine again for a while. I don't have an aftermarket filter. Do you think my IAC is going out??
Maybe it's just starting to. When mine went the first time, it played with me for about a week and then just quit working. My current IAC is going bad, but is very intermittent. When it does act up, it won't run long enough to put it in gear. If it is the IAC, it will get progressively worse. (F**d tech told me to hit it with a hammer if it goes all the way out ).
My truck was doing the same thing for the last month. Never start in the morning unless you gave it gas. After the first start in the morning it was hit and miss, maybe it would run and maybe not. Since my truck is out of warranty I bought a new IAC valve from the local Ford Dealer. It was around $70.00. I replaced the valve last Friday morning and have been happy ever since. It starts normally every time and idles the best it ever has. The valve is a PITA to replace.
I took card board and a old moving blanket and laid it on top of the battery and intake manifold. I actually laid on top of the engine face down and reached around to the back of the upper intake manifold. This is a really tight spot. I'm 6'2" and tip the scales around 260 lbs., so you lil guys should be able to do this easier. You will need a screw driver to pry the rubber hose off, no clamp it just slides on. The electrical connector just un snaps. Now the 2 bolts, this is the fun part. The upper bolt is not to bad you need a 8mm socket with a 2 inch extension and a quarter driver ratchet. Once you break it loose you can unscrew it with your fingers. The lower bolt is a real pain. You can not see it at all. You must do every thing by feel. Don't forget you also have to install the gasket at reassembly. When I installed the valve back I put a small dab of silicone on the gasket just to hold it on the valve. Install the top bolt first then align the lower hole. For the lower bolt I used electrical tape to hold it in the socket. Good luck, took me about an hour total.
Here is a link to FTE that shows the valve. Thanks must go to our moderator over there, da "Monsta."
I hear ya on the PITA!!! I dropped one of the bolts and it was never seen again! I also was leaning on the vacuum hose and my weight caused the rubber elbow to split. btw... that's my pic..

Yea I dropped a socket during my change. Thought I would never find it. Yea, I realized afterwards you actually furnished da "Monsta" the picture for the FTE FAQ. I didn't mean to leave you out on the credits, Sorry !
