V10 Y-Pipe?

I was changing the oil on the truck the other day and noticed that the pipe after the headers (Y-pipe) looks terribly inefficent. I saw the header install page, and saw that the Borla Y-Pipe looked pretty good, and I was wondering if any company sells the Y-Pipe seperate from the headers. If so how much is it, if not where would you get that? Has anyone done the y-pipe without doing the Headers? Any noticeable gains? I plan on gettting a Ravin muffler for the truck and thought maybe I should do the pipe as well. Any comments appericated - Thanks

Re: V10 Y-Pipe?

If i remember correctly the outlets on the headers are a little further away from the head compared to the stock exhaust manifolds. If you are going to try to buy the y pipe spend the extra bucks to get the headers, with my cat back exhaust it is 3" all the way out.

Re: V10 Y-Pipe?

I'm with fordv-10 on this one. You could have a shop custom make a new Y but why bother. Headers is the way to go. It will work well with your mods.

Re: V10 Y-Pipe?

Hmm. I'm betting my new Gibson headers won't come with a Y-pipe. Don't you guys think I should have one, as V10man suggests (3" all the way)?? I wrote Gibson and asked if they made/sold/included one...I'll let you know what they say. :-)

Jeff:

Gibson doesn't have a y-pipe for our trucks.

Re: V10 Y-Pipe?

I'd be afraid to buy a Borla or other manufacturers Y-pipe...would it fit? Would it be worth the expense?

Re: V10 Y-Pipe?

Banks and Borla make Y pipes for their headers only. They will not fit any other makes. The collector is further down on these systems compared to stock. You could buy a premade Y from Flowmaster and have a shop fab a Y system up for you. It'd still be cheaper to buy a Borla system ($550)
