Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

Ok we have a new pipe part number #1C3Z5246AA. I got a list price of around $75.00. Now we need Webigon's update of the new pipe.

OR anyone else who has purchased and installed the new pipe. I'm going to wait until there is some sort of conformation this works and hopefully some pictures.

Replacing the pipe shouldn't be very difficult. Two bolts on each bank with a donut type gasket(shouldn't have to replace the donut). And I think I remember seeing 3 bolts connecting the pipe to the cat. A flat gasket here may need to be replaced. All of my bolts/nuts were in good clean shape.

Gentlemen...I and others await your update.

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

I don't know where webigon is but he emailed me a few days ago and said that his flutter is gone! There is also another guy at http://www.ford-trucks.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi that claims he is fixed too.

You should not be worried about cost on the Y pipe, it should be a warranty issue.

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

Summitx,

I think webigon was posting on that site to. I would like to here him confirm it here. Maybe he's having fun driving it around! I would love to see some pictures to. I believe you said before yours is on order. Be sure and fill us in.

I'm also not sure Ford will do anything under warranty until a TSB comes out with all the info. I'll be looking for info on that to.

Hi all

Just got word that our new Y pipe is on order. It is going on our excursion to fix the flutter. I will let you know how it works when it is installed. Our dealer did not have the part# so I gave them the number that Webigon's gave us in his post.

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

Ok I don't have the pipe but I stopped by my dealer on the way home and found a 01 SC v-10 4x4. I'm not sure if the pipe would be the same but it is definitely different than my 99.5 v-10 lwb cc. On mine the pipe makes sort of a flat loop toward the front of the truck. On this one the pipe sort of comes in from the top at about a 45 degree angle. The lenght looks the same as mine but I didn't measure it. The funny thing is where the right bank(i think right) feeds into the main pipe the the ID can't be more than 1.5". Seems very small. It also comes into the main pipe at a 90 degree angle. You would think it would come in at an angle pointing in the direction of the exhaust flow. Very strange looking indeed. I'm still waiting to see what yall other folks find out.

Does this pipe work for the V-8?

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

I just ordered the y-pipe (1C3Z-5246-AA) and a new outlet gasket (F6TZ-5C226-BA) for $96. They claim it will be here on Monday.

Interesting thing is, this part number is listed as the stock pipe for the '01 SD. No mention about a replacement for '00 SDs. The parts guy told me that if it was a replacement part, it would normally say so, and show the part number that it replaces. Just change the first number to a Y (YC3Z) and you have the '00 SD y-pipe. The '99 SD showed a different part number as well.

Here's my worry. Since some '01 SD members are claiming to have the flutter, and Webigon's part number is just the stock '01 y-pipe number, this may or may not work for everyone.

Also, I saw two posts on another ford truck site (one was Webigon), and both claimed the flutter went away after installing this '01 SD Y-pipe.

I will post some before and after photos of the two pipes and some sound files with, and hopefully without, the flutter.

Stay tuned.........

Philip,
Please keep us updated and try not to fall into the same hole webigon did. I haven't heard from him in a while.

Also you live in a nice neighborhood.

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

I GOT THE NEW PIPE TODAY!!!!!

It looks EXTREMELY different than the 2000 pipe, with less drastic bends, although still pretty twisty. But, what is strange is that both sides are necked down to about 1.5" right before they merge.

I don't think I can put in on tonight, though, because I want to take some time to completely remove the heat shields, which looks like it could be a huge source of noise in itself. This may require some careful grinding with a dremel, since it is tack welded in many places.

I didn't have much luck taping my current flutter noise, though. If anyone (like summitx) has any suggestions, let me know. I tried a small microcasette recorder with no luck.

I will try and post some pictures of the new pipe tonight.

Philip, why are you doing this yourself? Take that thing to the dealer for warranty repair!

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

Pcasciola:

I just finished removing ALL the heat shields on my truck! (except the CAT.) Haven't driven it yet with them all removed, but a while ago, I was able to reduce some of the noise by taking off the heat shield under the y-pipe. If it reduces it further with all removed, I'll let everyone know. All the shields came off easily with a Dremel tool as suggested by Pcasciola. I even cut that stupid tray of the muffler. These shields, I imagine, are to help prevent fires if you drive over tall dry grass which I don't do anyways so I'm not worried about it. Also, grass would ignite just as easily anyways in the spots between the shields if it got hot enough. None of my other cars/trucks have shields except for the CAT..I left the CAT shield in place since CAT's can get quite hot and ignite things much easier than just the pipe alone.

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

summitx,
You know better than most of us that Ford is not really doing anything about this problem, since they claim it is not harmful to the engine.

SuperDave,
Let me know if you notice any difference with the heat shields removed. I just grinded mine off with an angle grinder because I couldn't find my dremel, but I won't know which makes more of a difference after I install it.

Hopefully, I'll get this pipe installed in a day or two. In the meantime, I posted some pics of the new pipe for everyone else to see. Click here

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

Very good work Philip!

As I described in my post near the top of this thread this is exactly the pipe I saw on a 01 SC V-10. It shows the smallish merge of the left and right banks. The tail section where the cat connects looks short but I'm sure the just the angle of the pictures. Can't wait to your report.

Re: Webigon's official new no flutter pipe thread!!

That thing looks nothing like the pipe on my '01. I'm sure the guys with '01's that talk of the flutter, have pipes like mine which I'm guessing are the same as the 2000's. I don't like that necked down part at all. I'd be very interested in before and after dyno numbers with that pipe.
