What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

I have been searching for different methods to increase gas mileage in my 08 F250 V10. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Right now I'm getting about 12 miles per gallon. I have seen lots of claims on ebay and have googled the topic so I have lots of claims to this topic.
I would like to try a proven method that someone has actually tried on this site. The ones on ebay etc. seem a little bogus.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

I talked to a fellow at the gas station with a 2006 V-10 and he said that his mileage stayed at 12 until he hit 30k and then it went up to 14. I think with the standard synthetic oil that Ford uses as their standard Motorcraft oil, that it takes longer for the rings to seat and the engine to break in. I did add a drop-in K&N air filter and gained 1 mpg immdeiately. You might try that.

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

12 around town is as good as it gets for a 4x4. I get 11-12 in my 99, CC LB 4x4 with 313's. A little better on the highway. My truck as 108000 on it.

I went with a KN for a short while, didn't help much and I like a better paper filter.

Definitely skip the Ebay schemes and snake-oils. By far the best thing you can do for fuel economy is to keep your foot out of it. If you have a choice between a stop and go route and one that will keep you moving, take the one that will keep you moving every time.

My 03 (2V, 2WD) has averaged just over 12 mpg over 60K miles since new. I've seen as high as 16 and some change, and as low as 10 something. Your right foot is the biggest influence on fuel economy.

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

Best way to see better MPG on the V-10 is less pressure on the gas pedal. Keep in mind that this time of the year gas is produced in a winter blend formula which results in lower miles per gallon.

Slow down. I have only had the truck for 2 1/2 months now, but have gained about 1 mpg by driving the speed limit instead of 10 mph over.

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

i'm a noob, thought i would start here.
looks like a cool place to hang out, as i have both a 7.3 and a V-10.
on this subject, i put a banks exaust and intake on my 01' F-250 lb sc 4x4 and it went from a solid 10mpg to a record best of 15mpg, with lot's more power to boot. put a trailer behind it and it will go to 10. although i agree, keeping out of the skinny pedal will net better results, it's really hard after the exaust upgrade, it just sounds to good.

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

My Signature shows I've tried all the cheaper tricks for Economy and power. As everyone seems to agree put an egg between your foot and the Throttle for best economy. I drive slow and gentle and use both the Vacuum Guage and the Scanguage II for 15 mph highway and 12.5 with the Camper onboard. There is no easy or economical route to Fuel Economy with the V-10....of course a big jugs V-10 on a big chassis is not designed for fuel economy.

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

Best thing to do is to just stay in Stanley. Don't go over Galina Summit to Ketchum or down to Lowman/Idaho City. You can take a side trip to Sunbeam and the Yankee Fork but that's all.

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

try to oversize your tires, if you are always empty you can also get a better ratio in your rear end, then there is the gearvendors overdrive to get a better rate on the hiway, but not on the street,

Re: What's the best way to improve gas mileage?????

Over sized tires will result in a higher rear end ratio, it also requires a stronger application of fuel to get the larger tires and or wheels turning up to speed. So if you are doing all highway driving with very few to no stops between the starting point and arrival point, as well as enough miles between the two points. The large tire theory may work. However if we are talking city driving or a lot of stop and go, you could in fact end up with worse mileage over all.
