I keep reading in here that most mpg figures are 9-10 city and 11-13 highway. My computer shows 8.6 - 8.8 constantly. I have the 4.30 l.s. axle with an auto transmision. I allso have bfg 285/75-16 all terrains. Could it be that I never had my speedo recalibrated or is something wrong with my truck. I tow nothing, I dont usually get into the pedal that much. What gives?

I get 12/city,15/highway but I have 3.73's.Your speedometer probably could have something to do with the computer not reading correctly, have you checked it the old fashioned way?
I don't know where you live
but colder weather and winter gas will get you lower MPG

Doesn't sound right. I have 1000 miles on my new V10 and I am getting about 11.5/12 in town and 14.5 on the highway. Not bad considering the engine isn't broken in yet!

I see you are from Mass. and the last time I knew, it gets cold there. I had a new 1999 F150 with the 4.2 v6 in it and with it new and cold out, I thought I made the biggest mistake of my life. Wasn't getting much better than you. Summer and 12k-13k miles changed all that. Got as high as 19 with it. If I would have kept it I know it would have gotten better. Summer time temps will treat you better. Find some x-way mile marker signs and check your speedo calibration. The 4:30 rear end is not known for the best mileage but it should get to what the others are. Remember, these new engines take a long time to break in. Better mileage can also be achieved by a good low weight synthetic engine oil.

I'm getting right around 9.6 on the overhead numbers with only 600 miles on the truck. And I do have 4.30 gears as long as I keep my foot out of it. Playing race truck driver I'm in the 8s. I'm running 1900-2000 rpms at 60mph

First off, get the speedo recalibrated. Your reading low on miles because your tire size has increased diameter of about 1.5 inches. #2 - your tranny shift points may be off causing it to hang a little too long (unless the Banks stuff corrected that. #3 - I lost some mpg with the bigger tires, more rolling resistance. #4 - Did you ever check mpg before your mods? Is it possible that the Banks stuff is sucking a little mpg? #5 - From what I've read in the past, the 4.30s give up about 1-1.5 mpg to the 3.73s.
Just guessing.

You have more of a reason to be getting 8.6 than I do!
I'm not sure when the "break in" period ends on these V-10's, Im learning as I go with this one!
I'm on my 5th fill up and here's what I've gotten so far:
7.05 MPG, 7.40 MPG, 8.55 MPG, 8.98 MPG, 8.77 MPG
I only have an XLT so those are all calculated the old fashioned way. For the most part the #'s have been going up. I have about 1250 miles or so on it now, hopefully it keeps getting better.
Its been an extra cold winter, so a lot of the problem is the warm up time its been getting every morning and night.
Next winter, I'll probobly be doing some minor engine / exhaust mods, but I'm not expecting the MPGS to go anywhere but down....thats what I've seen/heard for the most part.
BTW - I have a lead foot and I am currently doing 98% city driving.

The WORST I've ever gotten was 8.8 with the loaded camper against a 40 mph head wind. What size right foot have you got??? Maybe you should take some lead out of it.

I installed BFG 295 or 285/75/16's on my truck within the first 400 miles and never had the speedo recalibrated. I always got around 9.5-10 mpg according to the computer. I also do not let it sit and warm up at all during the winter, that will make a difference also.

Rob, they're phasing out the last of the leaded gas out this year, or so they say.
Maybe there is something wrong with my engine? Probobly not. I'm going on a 2 hour trip to get my Rhino liner installed, I'll try to stay around 70 or so to see what I get, but I dought I will stay at 70 when cars will be zipping by me twice as fast!
Too tempting!
Maybe its the crappy gas (mostly water) that AAFES buys over here.
Who know, but I do love my truck too much to worry about the bad gas milage.
