Just got my new SD V10 and wanted to know how many of you got the extended warranty. I'm not a big fan of throwing good money after bad money and pray that all the kinks are worked out by 3yr/36K. Would like to hear what the general consensus is and whether it's worth the $1,800 ? I try and do all my own work, if I can, when it's not covered by the warranty
Foghorn - heck, always willing to step in it first. Though many on this site regularly get the extended warranties - I'm one of those who does not. Seems to me like most major manufacturing defects will show in the first 36/36. Just my .02
Best to y'all

I got one to cover the period of the loan +1 year. I got the 7/70 Premium care after some haggling for just over $1000.00. Originally quoted me $1300.00. I figure $1000.00 for 4-more years of coverage = $250.00 per year. If I was to make 1-2 trips to the shop in that 4-year period, the plan would most likely pay for itself. Mine does have a $50.00 deductible...

Price seems high, I picked up my V10 SC 2x4 5sd DRW today and was offered the 6 yr for 12 something and throwing in gap insurance (gap is for totaled, you owe $$$$, insurance pays $$, it pays the gap). I didn't go for it.
I ALWAYS get the extended warranty. Believe me, there will be plenty of times you can use it. Ford is very good about honoring the extended plan, at least they have been with me! They will fix almost anything if you have the esp plan. The only thing that worries me is that IT IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR MORE THAN 75 K MILES!!!!

I just used my aftermarket extended warranty. I had a bad alternator and tach. The alternator alone cost $392 out the door. The warranty company paid $365. Who knows what the tach is gonna cost but the warranty company says it's covered too. The cost of a transmission alone will pay for the warranty. Why Ford dealers charge so much for a warranty blows me away. Must be simple greed. I'm using North American Warranty Services that I bought through my credit union. My service advisor said that this is a good company, that they have had no problems with them. 1-800-462-2452

I take a different view on the extended warranty. I do not believe in them. The odds are that you will not break even with the warranty cost/repair cost. Whwn you buy a vehicle from the dealer, they always push the extended warranty. WHY? Not because they are nice and are looking out for your best interests. But because it is a huge cash cow for them.
Don't get me wrong, you could run into a situation where it pays for itself and then some, but the odds are against that.
OK Foghorn, you won (Read my last post in the Ordering Info Forum).
As far as extended warranties, I've never believed in these, never had one, and never regretted it. Here's a gotcha from a friend who bought one on a Windstar: After the dealer diagnoses the problem and calls the hotline to make a claim, a couple of things can go wrong. The claim office won't return the call, so the vehicle sits. If you decide to drive the vehicle after the diagnosis, but before the office OK's the claim, the claim will be denied. Then the office finally returns the call (a day later) and claims your policy is not in effect anymore, so you have to fax a copy of the policy to them to prove them wrong. Another day, another call to the claim office (they never got the fax, please re-send it, yada-yada-yada....). A day later they call back and tell the dealer that the failed struts are considered a "body" part, not a suspension part, so they're not covered.
Do ya get the feeling they've been trained by the same folks who process your medical and dental claims? Maybe this was just one bad case, but I'd keep my money for the repairs I hope I never need and let 'em use their stall tactics on somebody with more patience than me.
