Zoodad on a gasser

Hey gassers, I was wondering what kind of effects the Zoodad mod should have on the gas engines, and if any of you have done it yet. The diesels seem to be benefitting greatly.

HP/performance increase?
MPG increase/decrease?

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

I cut a "zoodad" hole a few months ago. Still running the paper filter, but did notice an improvement in throttle response. No noticeable improvement in power or economy.

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

I did a similar modification last summer: http://www.eurekaboy.com/airbox.htm

It did seem to help the throttle response.

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

Thanks for the replies.

I did my zoodad mod today and it did seem to greatly improve the throttle response for my truck although I did add a K&N air filter at the same time so those two together seemed to do the trick. I will try to keep an eye on the MPG and post it later if there is any difference.

I would suggest this to all the gassers out there.

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

Did the Zoodad Mod this weekend and think it helped a bit. It only took 15 minutes with the rotozip and looks completely stock. I think that I need to mount a screen in front of the intake though.

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

It is a hole that is cut in front of the air intake tube that goes to the air filter.

The air intake tube has restricted air flow because a fiberglass plate blocks air from entering the intake tube. If you cut a hole in the fiberglass plate that is in front of the intake tube you will be creating a "ram air" system to help your engine breath a little easier.

Do a search in the archived upgrades and aftermarket forums under zoodad and you will find detailed explanations and even some pics as to exactly what this "homade ram air" intake system is.

If you can't find it let me know and I'll try to help further.

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

Keep in mind that some of the pictures of a "zoodad" air system are for the turbo-charged diesel. They have a HUGE hole compared to what we need for our gas engines.

BTW, "ZOODAD" is the username of a guy on this board. It seems he was one of (if not THE) first to cut the hole. The mod is named after him.

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

I did a search and all i came up with was a job done to a PSD. Can anyone help me on finding pics on a Zoodad done to a V-10? I want to make it appear proffesional, not a saw and hammer type job. thanks -

Re: Zoodad on a gasser

As I posted a few days ago... Piece of cake !!! Search in upgrades for "Zoodad Question" and read post by user "The Dave for a step by step guide. Here is the link that was posted with the thread and it shows exactly what it should look like. I used a Rotozip and cut a 2"x4" rectangle and then filed it smooth. Looks factory !! I would like to add some mesh to keep the bigger bugs out though. Good luck !!!
