Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
Ponderosa is where I am talking about, only drawback is nowhere to put the trailers, so it would be a day-event. the chevy sounds good, that was back when they still built a soild truck (IMHO) what color is it?
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
I have heard of people having events at Rollins Lake, been there many years ago, they have camping, swimming and as I recall pretty good access right off 80. Are you guys familiar with it? Might be a little cooler than Camp Far West. I also thought about Discovery Park in Sac, right at the confluence of Sacramento and American Rivers, they have great group picnic areas, but no camping. Don't know if you guys were planning a day or whole weekend event. Anyway, Dean I stopped by Sacramento County Parks and Rec and picked up some maps and a booklet regarding using these facilities for group events. If you email me your address, I can mail this info to you, or you can call them at (916) 875-6336, or as I am writing this and looking at the front of the booklet there is a web address [fun4sac@sna.com]
Havent checked the online address out, the booklet I have is County of Sac, leisure services, events for new millenium.

Fenceman:
As far as that truck you are looking at is concerned, if its clean and not butchered, and you can afford to, just buy it as an investment, especially if its a CST model, those short box fleetside 4X4 early Chevys are real classics, now if your looking for a TRUCK, you know what you should be looking for

Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
will have my wife call folsom lake, and camp far west for rates and avail. do we want to camp, or just have a day event? rollins lake sounds good and so does strawberry (?)lake above auburn. and when do we want to have it?
I think I could get a trailer/bar-B-Q for some real food, and I might get some sponsorship from a local large retailer too.
I am on the road right now, but have the wife working on it.
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
Great, now all we need is a place and time.
we have narrowed it down(I think)to the sacramento-north part of the state, and we will want it near water, cause it's hot round here in summer. big jake is looking into sacramento county parks and my wife is calling the local lakes and campgrounds. we need a really good spot to draw folks from all over. If anyone else has any ideas bring them on. can we assume 50-60 trucks like the last one, or are we gonna blow the other region's socks off?
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
I vote for Sacramento. Lived in Stockton for 10 years, so still have many friends in that area. Would be fun to visit from Utah.
What dates are we looking at?
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
I was thinking late july-early august. while the kids are off, and many people have vacation time. what are the week/weekends that are the best for y'all? I take most weekends off anyway and can usually warp my work schedule anyway.
lets pick a week and we will find a lake/river/mudpuddle somewhere to gather up and have fun!
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
If possible, I'd go for the Rollins Lake area - it's much more scenic than say Folsom(IMHO). I was going to suggest it, but was beat to the punch. As for a date, I'd suggest late July or August. Plenty of time to organise that way, and for attendees to make time for the trip.
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
I think we are too late to get reservations, but we could still go for the day. see www.penresort.com for details. what do y'all think? I think I will be cruising around this weekend looking for sites
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
OK I have no idea what the heck I am doing, but I seem to need to know; when we want to do this,is it going to be a day/weekend, where,(good choices so far)how many are coming,(and with or without trailers) and perhaps some of us locally should get together somewhere first.(to hash this stuff out in person).
jake, have you gone to any of the other places fenceman and I are talking about? ponderosa is really nice (but dusty)I think I am going to cruise up to rollins tomorrow to check it out.
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
OK I went out cruising today, and I have a pretty good spot at rollins lake. www.longravineresort.com they haven eight spots w/electric left for the 3rd weekend in august, and quite a few non-electric spots left also. they have a boat ramp, store,restaurant.semi-paved roads all in all it looks really good. if we hurry they will block off a big area just for us. sites are $24.00/night, $5.00 day-use,($11.00 w/boat)other camp sites range from $20-25. thier number is (530)346-6166.give it a look and let me know what y'all think. I am still open to other ideas, but I got a warm reception here. it is basically 5 minutes out of colfax. however there is a 14'6" clearance on the road there.(I dont have anything that tall but I thought I would warn anyway)
is the third weekend in august ok? (18th,19th,20th, fri-sat-sun)
Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
Dean:
Sorry, I seem to have dropped the ball here. I have had family in from the east coast and been going back and forth to Martinez all week for job interviews, (go back to work on Monday at Shell refinery).
ANYWAY...
Took a spin early this morning, never even knew about Ponderosa bridge and I used to live in Foresthill. In my opinion, road is too windy and dusty, plus really no place to park.
I then went up to Rollins and found two possible spots, both on the west side pretty close to Chicago Park area.
The first one is Orchard Springs campground, off 174 at the end of Orchard Springs RD. As you first come into the campground, immediately as you go thru the gate there is an area called "The Meadow", large grassy area probably 15 to 20 campsites there on a large grassy area under shade trees, its also available for day use, very clean and neat.
The second one was farther up 174 toward Grass Valley, its called Greenhorn Campground, its off Greenhorn Rd @174.
They have 3 large group picnic areas right on the lake, and what looks to be a group camping area immediately adjacent to it, once again really clean and well manicured, don't have to worry about a lot of dust and dirt.
Sacramento County stuff is definitely out, they want all kinds of deposits and use fees, special use permits, additional insurance. I would just rather have everyone pay the fee when they come in the gate, I don't know about you, I don't like being responsible for other people's money.
I got your email and I am putting these maps and brochures in the mail to you, check them out, see what you think.
I didn't ask about availability, we have to nail a date down first, then go from there.
I highlighted the areas I am talking about.
Anyway, happy reading.
I think I can speak for everyone @www.ford-diesel.com when I wish your lovely Mrs. a HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Re: everyone else has one... we need a No. Cal rally!
We must have chased each other around the lake! I was at Long Ravine at probably 9 or 9:30 this morning!
Don't know when you were there, I had a feeling you might be in the area, but I didn't see a big white dually, I was in my red 86F250 4X4 with no tailgate.
Long Ravine is certainly a great place, I, too got a very warm reception there, lady in the little booth was very friendly, I kind of liked the other side of the lake a little better.
In my last post I neglected to include their website [www.rollinslakeresorts.com]
.
What area of Long Ravine were those campsites in? Was it down by the little store? I didn't see any picnic tables there, just the few out on the deck in front of the little restaurant.
Just my .02
I think anywhere on Rollins would be just fine, now if we could just have the weather the was it was today, would be just great in August!!!!!
