An Idea for a Rally Event
All diesel truck owners like to think they get good mpg. Maybe what we need is an event to let the competitive types put up or shut up.
Obviously you don't want to have everybody driving all day and all night in a marathon economy run. Maybe a 100 mile loop. Measuring the amount of fuel used needs some thought. Barring plumbing precision flow gages in the only way I can think of is to get some precision axle scales. Measure the curb weight (no driver or passenger) before and after the run. Diesel weighs about 7 lb/gal. So the weight difference divided by seven yields fuel usage and the distance is known. Run different classes: Empty, bed load to max gvwr, trailers, F250, F350, F450/F550. Etc ad nauseum. The prize: BRAGGING RIGHTS! Big time documented bragging rights.
Anybody like this idea?
