Re: North East Rally

Lake George would be fine, as long as we don't have to pay sales tax on anything we buy from vendors! Otherwise, make it Lake Winnepesauke in NH! Either way, I'm in, mid-Sept is cool. I'll help out in any way I can.

Re: North East Rally

Carpentractor,

Anyway you can combine the two posts?

P.S. - the date for the Lake George (actually Stony Creek - about 15 minutes from Lake George and rural and quiet) would be Sept. 8-10

We would need to get a good count to see if it would be feasable to use the whole facility. I'll have to check with the owner about what he needs for a commitment.

Rich

Re: North East Rally

Since I am just outside Portland, ME I would vote for something in New England. Kittery Maine or Sebago Lake Maine or Winniwhatever in New Hampshire is nice too. Lake George is quite a haul for me. I don't know the area well but somewhere in the Berkshires of Mass might be more centrally located.

I'll be in Torrington, CT sometime this summer on a trip. I'll come by assuming the timing/location work out.
I'll be in Bristol,TN/VA the last week of August. There's a certain NASCAR event there I'm going to. Anyone else going? It'd be a good place/time to feast our squinties on each other's trucks, brag, & stuff....

Its looking like I won't be able to make the VA rally. But if there was one closer, I would probably be able to attend. VA is just to far away for me with my present work load.
So, count me in if we have one closer.

Sounds like a good plan to me. PA or New England would be great. Don't need much to convince me to leave NJ for a while.

News on summer rally....
I'm looking into the Bethlehem Fair Grounds in CT.
They have horse and bath facilities, may have to pay for weekend and ins. but, they have plenty of parking and room for food.
Truck pulls, horses, parking and overnight parking for campers. This is not set yet but working on it and an idea.
Please respond.

Note this is 1 3/4 hrs. from NYC in the country. Plenty of antique shopping for the wives and short ride from amusement park in Woodbury CT. or 1 hr. from Casinos.

Steadytv, any other ideas? or anyother guys from CT.?

Thought i would mention of two top rated camp grounds in the northeast ideal for a rally.Baleys camping resort[www.bayleys-camping.com]located in the south coastal part of Maine, just off exit 5 on Maine Turnpike&Lake George RV Park[www.lakegeorgervpark.com,just of exit 20 on rte. 87 in New YORK State. Both have between 350-400 sites, have intertainment&activities for kids 7adults as well.Plus motels for non -campers as well.Plenty to do for the women&children, they can take only so much power stroking.Check them out.I myself will be at Bayleys Aug.5TH-13TH

Yes, The Gypsy and I will be in the North East some time late this summer. We will be coming across the Trans-Canada, and could detour just about anywhere.
We'll keep up with the Forum while on the Road for a Date, Place and time.

I can vouch for the Lake George RV Park, since it is only about 7 minutes from my house. The Lake george area is very nice offering everything from horseback riding, rodeos, the Great Escape Amusement Park (part of Six Flags) boat rentals, parasailing, hiking, etc. etc. etc.
There is also a vast expanse of State and Private campgrounds available, with the one in Lake Luzerne having horse facilities. There is literally so much to do, you could never cover it all in a summer.

The downside is that is extremely busy from July 01 to Labor day. You will HAVE to call about availability, since most events are booked at least a year in advance and most weekends have something going on from Memorial day tup to almost October to include Americade, Car shows, Firemen conventions, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a trip to Maine, myself.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Just talked to Bethlehem Fair people and its do-able.
Need #'s of people and needs...buildings, garbage and food.
I've e-mailed a few past Rally holders and am waiting for some replies.

Best time for the fair people is June till mid Aug. They said camp hookups are being put in now and may be ready soon.
I'm looking into sponsors now, we have a bunch of people around...Jannetti....Litchfield Ford....how big should we go....is there enough people interested?

Tupper Lake in northern NY right in the heart of the Adrondack Mountains. Its not far from Canada. The town has a large park that is avilabile for events like this and is right on the water with camping avilable there and in surronding areas. There are some good mountain road miles to be had getting there. I'm sure my old 88 7.3 could make it that far.

Re: North East Rally

John Yea I did.

The only way you can fix your e mail is to get a new address. Unfortunately that might be a pita. Call your ISP and Change that underscore to another character. "turbo_diesel" to say "turbo-diesel" or "turbodiesel". That is one of the reasons I set you up with the yahoo e-mail account.

Re: North East Rally

Hey,
If we decide to do it near Albany let's just watch what is happening at Saratoga Springs Raceway though. It gets packed up there and could be hard to find open space at camp grounds or hotels in the area. The response looks good though. I'm looking forward to it, and presentation equipment is forth coming as long as it is not in use and I can make.

Re: North East Rally

ford turbo,

Is your e-mail working? My messages are getting rejected and sent back.

turbo_diesel@prodigy.net

Keith,

Don't know about that, it might make it too long, but if we start a new one, then everyone will have to re-post.

We'll leave it up to you, the all-seeing, all-knowing, omnipotent administrator

*as he drops to his knees and bows*

Seriously, whatever you think is best.

As far as location, I think the original consensus was a central location for Maine to western NY (kreynol2) and NJ, PA.

Let the crowds decide.

Re: North East Rally

For your info -

I e-mailed John (ford_turbo_diesel) earlier, and he has a problem with the Sept 8-10 weekend. Unfortunately, the Lake George area is pretty much out of the question for any time in the summer as every thing is booked 1 year in advance. That particular weekend became available due to a cancellation.

I'm open to ideas.

Albany?? Nope- can't think of anything nice about Albany.

Jlucs is right. Saratoga books everything through Labor day due to the track.

I can check with some of the campgrounds in the area or with the state parks, if so desired.

Re: North East Rally

What events (for non-diesel people ) shall we look for?
Shopping, fishing, amusement parks and local attractions.
Western CT. is looking good again because of location and I think we will fill the bill for events. Rich S. confirmed my fears of Lake George, NY (crowds)
Towing is not that bad (unless you're hauling illegal and I have not as of yet noticed the stateline DOT stop I-84 in Danbury open in a year! ) and we must act quick to set up a weekend and location as our options are dwindling.

Re: North East Rally

What about looking into Sturbridge, MA as another option. I haven't been there before, but I here its like Lancster, PA, which sounds like that has the potential family thing we're looking for. Went to Boston for 4 years to college and never stopped there. Being right off the Mass pike makes it easly to get to.
