We tried to assist in any way possible to get the rally off the ground, even volunteering equipment to prep the pulling track and front the money to get the dyno guy on board. But in the end nobody would settle on a date, give us a place etc. so maybe next year....

The time to start planning for next year is now. An event that would need around 200 or so attendees needs a lot more time than just a few months planning.
As for agreeing on a date I'd say pick a few dates put it up for a poll and the most votes for a particular date should be the date. Want to make it a competive event as in the dyno or truck pulls make it an all american brand diesel event. Just don't forget to also have a competition for the lowest HP this way I have a great chance of winning that event .
Also make the event a place where people do not have to drive 2 days to get to. Upstate NY was perfect when the events were held there. A lot of people showed up and had a great time.

Also has air compressor on board along with suction unit and O2 system.

Instead of saddling one person with all the responsibility for planning, let's have a small organizing committee. That way, the cost per bottle of beer drops dramatically.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers and I think it's great that someone has already identified a possible site, but...
Why not get a better idea of all the different geographic locations everyone might be coming from and then identify a site that is most equi-distant. It's possible that the event might pull from both the Northeast and MidAtlantic regions. That might be the "fairest" way of doing things and make the drive easier for more folks, especially if this is going to be a family event; which needs to be decided as well.

Yes, the time to start planning for next year is now. Most vendors book a year in advance. Also, some people have to submit their vacation requests way in advance.
Not to be a wet blanket, but this is exactly the problem that the wife and I ran into the last two years. Initially, everyone said "Great Idea!" and then somewhere along the line that turned into "Welll... if you plan it I will come - if I can make it."
It takes a lot of work to pull this off. And I've wondered about the northeast thing myself. Many people are willing to help out the weekend of the rally, but very, very few will help with the planning. Unfortunately, that's where you need the help the most. With my full-time job in addition to the wife and I running a new business, it just became too much work to do it ourselves.

I can't speak for all of us, but I'm sure there are several WNYPA members who would deffinately be interested in being on such a comittee.
I would be interested.
Perhaps Y2KPSD, I'll point them in this direction.
Perhaps we can start a thread dedicated to the planning of next years event.
I agree the time would be NOW to start, we host several events and know how tough it can be to get somthing to actually happen.
I know there is alot of interest in Drags, and pulls. There is a handfull of locations which could possibly host such events. 1/4mi tracks are hard to come by in this area.
I will be sampling one on friday, I'll let you know how it goes...

How do we want to "define" a Diesel Rally? Should family be included? What does the event absolutely gotta' have to be successful? Heck, for the first time out, I'd be happy with a fairly simple event. For those with tents and trailers, let's find a campground near a destination. Somethin' like this...
And a barbeque before or after. After the event and as word begins to spread that we had an unbelievably good time, we can add dynos, vendors, etc., etc.
Sometimes it's better to take baby steps. No one wants to do a crap load of work only to see a few people turn out for the event. Human nature being what it is, you see limited enthusiasm for something and all of sudden the cold buckets of water get thrown on the next idea.
On the other hand...
