Location for 2009 Eastern IDI Rally

At this year's rally, my wife (Missy) and I volunteered to host the 2009 IDI rally in Bowling Green, Kentucky over the July 4th weekend. Most seemed to like the idea and here are the attractions/events we are proposing......

TS Performance is based in Bowling Green. The owner is a friend of a co-woker of mine. They have a CHASSIS DYNO that they will let us strap our IDI's to and make runs!!! The cost of each run is not know yet, but they will also have to shop open to tour as well.

Beech Bend is in Bowling Green. They have a very nice campground and you can rent a camper there if you don't want to haul yours there. They also have a drag strip. I will try and get an "IDI bracket" for the weekend's races if I can and if you guys want to drag race each other. They also have a water park and an amusement park. There are several pavilions for us to use during the weekend and there is a ton of fun stuff there.

There is also a KOA Campground, but I don't know how well they can accomodate/tolerate a large group of smokey trucks. Like Darrin and I discussed at the rally, an independent campground will likely be more flexable and better suited to our needs. But, I could be way off on that assumption.

The National Corvette Museum is there as well as the corvette assembly plant. The museum would be cool to tour. However, I doubt the plant will be open over the holiday weekend.

Holley Performance has their world headquarters in Bowling Green too. Another possiblity for a tour and I might try and talk them out of a Red Pump or two.LOL

Mammoth Cave National Park is about 30 miles away from Bowling Green and is the largest cave system in the U.S. and in fact is the longest cave system in the world. Its a BIG cave. We can go for a cave tour as well.

I also went to college in Bowling Green at Western Kentucky University

Well..............What do you guys think??

I think we will have a few new awards at this rally for you guys to shoot for:
Highest HP/Torque 6.9 IDI
Highest HP/Torque 7.3 IDI

Heath

ON EDIT: This is also on the BOOB site as well.

Ok, I have not posted about the rally lately as I'm having issues nailing down a commitment from TS Performance. After this years Rally, I called them to establish a date/time for the group to come by the shop for the dyno/tour. The employee I talked started to back-peddle a bit. His response was "Fourth of July is no good. We'll all be at the lake that week and there will be no engineers here to run the dyno. Any week but that week would be no problem............but, you need to talk to Dennis (owner)."

So....I'm in a pickle here. If Dennis says no good for 7/2 or 7/3......Then we can just tour the place, but their MAY NOT be an engineer to run the dyno. If this is something you are interested in doing during the rally, please email them at this address chrisw@tsperformance.com and tell them. Not to harrass them, but to show that there is significant intrest in having them (and their dyno) as part of our rally.

At this time, the campground may be Beech Bend. Details about who the contact person is, prices, and what not are to follow in the near future. The owner (Dallas Jones) says he cannot commit to drag racing or circle track race involvment for the group until after 1/15/09 as he will not have the race schedules until then. Also, he states campsites cannot be reserved in advance, first booked, first served. I'm a bit frustrated by everyone's lack of commitment.

Also, for those of you who missed this post on "the other site," Mike McGlothlin from Diesel Power is going to try and cover the rally for the magazine. Please give him a post in that thread in graditude for thinking of doing this for the event.
I'll be posting more information as I have it.

Please ask questions and give opinions and comments about the above info.

Heath

Exclamation Campground Update

I finally got "THE FINAL ANSWER" from Beech Bend campground.....NO RESERVATIONS.......EVER!!?? Dallas Jones (owner) said "We will have plenty of spots for your group over the Fourth, just hav'em come on and we'll get them a spot then." I politely told him no thanks and that WILL NOT HAPPEN. I think we can still get involed with drag racing/waterpark/amusment park if there is intrest.......but we won't be camping there.

Missy and I have made plans to go to Cave City and check out the Jellystone Park Campground on Friday afternoon/evening. Again, the phone calls have been promising, but we will have to lay eyes on the place before calling it home for the 2009 IDI Rally.
