Report: GM Vice Chair Throws Down a Gauntlet to Ford in Heavy Duty Tug of War
General Motors' vice chairman of global product operations is so strong a believer in his company's product he's willing to prove it in a tug-of-war between the GMC Heavy Duty and the Ford F-Series Super Duty.
Vice Chairman Tom Stephens made the bold statement in an interview with PickupTrucks.com about the new Duramax engines powering the 2011 Chevrolet and GMC Heavy Duty. The site's editor was surprised by the statement, he asked Stephens three times if he was serious, but Stephens remained adamant.
"You're going to love our new diesel Duramax engine in the new Heavy Duty," Stephens told PickupTrucks.com. "You know what I want to do to prove it? I want to take our truck and Ford's [new Super Duty] and chain them together back -to-back. Then I want to have them pull against each other. I know our truck will beat theirs."
PickupTrucks.com passed the challenge on to Ford but has yet to get a response. We're not sure if Ford is willing to take the bait, but this is one challenge we would love to see.
tug of war doesn't really prove much when it comes to real world everyday use.
I would assume they'd need to compare apples to apples: example single cab long bed, 2wd, auto tranny, gear ratios matched, same tires/size, "stock tunes"
Soooo many variables as well;
weight distribution, which then factors into traction @ rear wheels.
Then the all important who gets into the pedal a fraction of a second earlier and therefore I'd say they'd have to use calibrated computer-triggered/driven accelerators to pull this off (pun intended)
In the end WHO CARES! Just a flippin' ***-measuring contest.
I have no idea which would win in above senario, but I can tell you that it wouldn't have ANY effect on which I'd purchase; and shouldn't have any effect on most with a decent head on their shoulders.
Gov-Motors chairman must have nothing better to do with that fat bonus than to sit around and dream up useless "marketing" gimmicks

What a stupid marketing gimmick. He would get the 16 year olds excited believing the winner will be the better truck but everyone else's opinion will be ***?
I wouldn't trade my duramax for any 6.0 or 6.4, but I'm sure the ford would win. The hitch height plays a big part in it. The fords sit higher and gets pulled down while pulling the gm up...

You know what is funny, at the Detroit autoshow this month, they didn't have ONE Duramax on the floor. Isn't GMC a truck company???
government motors creations--not for much longer--electric nothing cars will abound--

Bigger **** sells a lot of these big trucks. He's not stupid. Personally I think my old 97 7.3 would win the real contest. 10,000 lbs, 2000 miles, the one that uses the least fuel and cost the least to maintain wins.
