03 Excursion 6.0 & B&B Exhaust - Ever installed?

I'm looking at putting an exhaust on my 03 Ex 6.0 but am limited to what's available. B&B has a system from the turbo back but I don't think I want to tackle that. I don't mind cat-back. I would like some sound but not enough to kill any passengers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: 03 Excursion 6.0 & B&B Exhaust - Ever installed?

I can't comment on B&B's truck exhausts but I have one on my race car and it sounds awesome. Pretty much all of B&B's stuff is loud but sounds really good. You won't hear the exhaust much in your truck though since the muffler will be under the bed. On my 7.3 its straight piped and I can't hear any differance unless the windows are down. If I were to spend the money, I would either get a DPPI or a B&B. B&B always makes nice stuff.

B&B's website does not show a 6.0L exhaust system yet. The only thing they show is the 7.3 systems.

Jon, Call Mark at 866-455-7788 and talk with him. I think the DPPI system will work on an X...Rick

Re: 03 Excursion 6.0 & B&B Exhaust - Ever installed?

I already talked to Mark at DPPI and modification would need to be done to the tailpipe bracket as well as Quad's system would. Portadiesel told me that B&B already had a system available for the 6.0 but it is turbo back and I've never attempted that. I've put on all my own lifts and done cat back exhaust but I'm not sure about messing with the turbo. What about muffler replacement on the 6.0, any suggestions?

Re: 03 Excursion 6.0 & B&B Exhaust - Ever installed?

Jon,

We have used B&B for the last 3-4 years on all the PSD that come through here. The fit and finish is second to none. The sound on the 6.0 is just a different tone inside the X, you here the turbo a little more but the diesel less...That is the best way I can explain it! The part # is BB-00282. Hope this helps.

Ryan,

How difficult was the turbo back install?

Re: 03 Excursion 6.0 & B&B Exhaust - Ever installed?

John,

The 6.0l is a little tougher than the 7.3 systems. The down pipe removal is a little more work. Butu once you have the old system out the B&B slides into place. I would say it is a good 2 hour driveway project.

Re: 03 Excursion 6.0 & B&B Exhaust - Ever installed?

Hey Jon, Although mine is a 7.3 I had my then 16 y.o. son do most of the work for me and it went together perfectly. 1 clamp up on the turbo, unbolt the front pipe from the down pipe, cut the over the axle pipe with either a radiac wheel or the sawz-all and the old system was out. IIRC R&R took about 2 hrs. on the ground, and it's been 2 1/2 years now and still looks great (was just under her last night), truck still sounds nice and throaty but not obnoxious. I'd do it again, although I have been looking into the DPPI dual outlet in SS for my p/u...... Mike

Thanks Ryan. It figures. Does B&B make a Cat back system yet for the 6.0?
