Why do you want an '03 turbo??? There's no difference between it and an '05 turbo. I've torn them both apart and they are identical.

'03 turbos have fewer vanes, more whistle with low restriction exhaust.

The turbine wheel and housing are quite different between the two years you posted.

Yeah, quite a few differences between those two turbos. The '03 turbo you tore apart may not have actually been an '03. Everyone likes those because they whistle much louder.

The way the turbo mounts is a key indicator. The '03 requires a completely different mounting pedastal. You may be able to locate the part number on the turbo and cross reference as well.

You're right. I went back and looked at the pictures of the reconditioning I did on my '04 and it only has 9 vanes. It has a much deeper, louder whine. The '05 I reconditioned had like 13 vanes and produces a much higher, punier whistle instead of a whine. Both, my truck and the other(my buddy's F-350) are straight piped and sound completely different. I didn't know they had changed it over the years. I actually thought it was just the difference in the exhaust pipes. Hopefully I won't have to ever get a replacement turbo because I love the way mine sounds like it is. My turbo whine sounds kinda like a Komatsu motor grader sounds.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make an '03 turbo fit my '97 model

FYI, the 03 has 10 vanes, the 04 has 12 vanes, and the 05+ has 15 vanes. The 03 turbine wheels is also 3mm larger than the 05+.

How many beers did you have while reconditioning your 04?

Oh yeah, I got all my stuff on eBay. Fresh rebuilt 03 Turbo in box, new 03 Pedestal, new VGT solenoid, for a total of $650 shipped. You just have to keep watching.
