Upgrades and Aftermarket - 6.0L EngineUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 2003-Up Super Duty or Excursion with 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine.
Has there been any discussion on this topic? Seems like a scam by the state for some extra $$$.

I'm surprised they dont already do it. California is one of the most over regulated states on everything, especially outboard motors..... I'm in the fishing/boating industry and deal with the EPA drama all the time....
Hopefully this doesnt go through, but if it does, i bet its going to be a cluster *&^% for a while until they get it all figured out.....
This will jack with everyones tunes and upgrades, we need to start sending emails, its our state, we have a say if this should be passed or not. We didnt need this before, why would we need or want it now....
well thats a terrible legislation it seems only for money. now if you read it it says gvwr 8501 or less, i dont know much bout the weights of different trucks but i know my f-350 srw is 11500 gvwr so would i be exempt?
This bill would, starting January 1, 2010, include diesel-powered vehicles manufactured after the 1997 model-year that have a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 8,501 pounds in the biennial smog check program, as provided.
The bill would authorize diesel-powered vehicle smog check testing to include on-board diagnostic testing.

Maryland has something similar, simply to make money. I was annoyingly surprised to find out that I had to take my 2005 CTD in to the smog station to get it checked annually. The kid there even admitted that they didn't do anything to really check it. My truck went on a dyno and they stuck a sniffer up the tailpipe. The next year they put an OBDII scanner on it.
It only cost me something like $14, but it's the principle of the matter.

Oh, they know whats going on. Its designed to fail. Order out of chaos.
Somehow I just don't see Cali becoming a New World Order state, unless you nuke San Fran and Berkeley.

this law effects all '98+ diesel 3/4 and 1 ton trucks in CA. the law excludes only older trucks or trucks over 14,000 GVWR. the 8500 GVWR and 10,000 GVWR #'s are just pending until they finalize the best methods for testing. almost anything that was legally done in the past to improve performance and/or gas millage will in 2010 cause the truck to FAIL the test. owners will have to revert to original hard parts (including turbos, downpipes, injectors and intercoolers) and software, as well as retain all original smog equipment. i'm sure that the companies that make aftermarket parts can pay hundreds of thousands to now have their parts CARB approved, but until then beginning in 2010 they are will be illegal to use on CA licensed 3/4 and 1 ton diesel trucks.
i don't think people really know how serious this is

I think we will see hundreds of good deals on used diesels really soon.
I can see people spending hundreds of dollars to improve performance, but I cant see anyone spending the same amount of money to make your truck stock,
You have twin turbos and 190 injectors, will you spend the same amount again to be stock?
Stop being one of those people. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. If you want a rig with stacks, drive a real truck, like a semi.
Somehow I just don't see Cali becoming a New World Order state, unless you nuke San Fran and Berkeley.
Can't nuke Berkeley, it's a nuclear free zone.
Hit SF and the blast/fall out will take Berkeley too, and you can save the nuke for Portland or Seattle. Just let me know before you unload so I can get out of dodge.
Well, another reason to own a diesel has just been shot to hell......
Oh well, my VIN ends in an odd number so I won't have to report for inspection until 2011.
Stop being one of those people. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. If you want a rig with stacks, drive a real truck, like a semi.
Not all of us worship at the alter of bio-diesel. If you read the legislation, the question of fuel is still an issue. So potentially your earth loving bio-diesel could cause you to fail the diesel smog test.
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." Spare us the liberal bilge. We don't have problems anymore, just change......

Well, Dan, maybe we can save one of those nukes for Glacier, WA.
If Nowel "HVAC" Thomas was still around...I wonder what he'd say.
