22.5 wheels on my dually? does it ruin the ride?

was interested in getting some, but not sure how it might efect the ride plus highway mpgs

The ride really depends on the tires you choose. Go with a nice radial and stay away from the commerical style tires.

The mpg will go down slightly with larger tires and added weight.

I would strictly avoid the half sizes. ID is right about mileage going down. Expect a couple MPG's lower roughly. The problem with the half sizes is that they are specifically designated for heavy trucks. The only tires you can get are pretty heavy ply, and they are worthless for traction (your choices are the grippy type you see on the drive wheels of a semi or the wimpy ones you see on the front). In all cases, they are run at higher pressures, like 80-120 psi, which means they are a very rough ride and have poor grip. They make a lot of noise. They SUCK in the snow. I had them on my truck, which is a dually, and I would routinely spin all six in RAIN. Forget snow, they handle like CRAP.

There are so many great whole size choices now. You could go 22's and then you have a lot of good tire choices (if you don't believe me, open any magazine and find the tire ads in the back; you won't even see the half sizes, 19.5, 22.5, 24.5), but you will see lots of 20's, 22's, and a couple of 24's). The whole sizes are lower ply, run at normal pressure, use softer rubber, nasically everything you would want. They are lighter, so you can get a little of that fuel economy loss back too. You can get low profile's for them too. Basically, there is no reason to use truck wheels and tires anymore on a light truck.

Larger tires effectively lower your final drive ratio. So, the same amount of revolutions will turn larger i.e. greater circumference tires a longer distance.
