4" eshaust

I want to change to 4" exhaust this summer, we have emission inspection every two years and they do look at the cat so I have to leave in on. So my question is what good is it to go to a 4" exhaust if it goes down to a 3 1/2" then back to 4"? I can get a 4" cat but it cost as much as the rest of the exhaust.

Thanks Marvin

Your downpipe is only going to be about 3.5" inches anyway. It will still flow more with a 4" after the cat. I recently got a 4 inch system.. the downpipe is 4" at the turbo, them it had a big smash in the middle of it to clear the firewall, so what the point in having a 4" downpipe? Long story short, the pipe runs into my floorboard, and they are now sending me a 3.5" downpipe(for more $$$) My advice.. buy name brand exhaust..
