6.0 Turbo and carbon build up question

I read on another post about carbon build up that caused the turbo to stick. This is just what happened to me and it cost me a new turbo.

What can I do to keep this from happening in the future? Someone mentioned an SCT, but I'm not sure what that is... I figured it was a chip???
I don't necessarily want a performance type chip, I just tow a lot of weight upt to 14000 lbs and want to keep my 03 6.0L running good into the future.

Sorry about the lack of knowledge here. I appreciate any help I can get.

well an sct tune wont ruin ur truck at all.. just give eric a call at inovative diesel and tell him what u want.. u will love the new power for towing.. i have a bully dog programmer tripple dog power pup. i bought it rite when i bought the truck new in 06.. the truck runs great and i havent had any problems. these truck are meant to be abused and if u just baby them they WILL break!!
