air intakes

I have been reading alot about air intakes I have seen some tests on flow and how much dirt gets into the turbo. Some people I have talked to said that donaldson makes the air filters for the 6.0 psd and that they are the best filters for the diesel. They said they were designed for desert use. They also said that the other after market filters claim to give more hp and torque but they only do so at 3000 rpms. Does anybody have any test that include the Donaldson factory air filter and the other after market filters on it so I can compare. I am trying to get a little better fuel mileage because here in southern calif. diesel is about $3.40 per gallon. I would really appreciate any help I could get I dont want to put a after market filter on and because I live on a dirt road and dirt gets in my turbo they tell me my warranty is no good because of the filter. thanks

Re: air intakes

i got the new filter and housing from wix and the fuel milage has stayed the same. the power hasnt suffered and the vacume meter hasnt moved. this indicates that there is no more air flow resistance from the new rectangular filter elemeny. for less than 75 bucks i got ride of the pain-in-the-a-- factoory filter. i can change filters in one minute without bucting my knuckles. now i have to cross-reference the numbers to see if the is a k&n filter for it.

Re: air intakes

Please keep us posted as to how it works. I am interested in this only because I like changing the air filter often. When they are cheap it is cheap piece if mind. Chris

Re: air intakes

Any one have experience with the Amsoil/Donaldson air filters? Is this a joint venture or two different filters? I'm also considering the AFE Stage I with Proguard 7.

Re: air intakes

the filter box from wix is built very strong. it isnt a piece of crap. when you clamp down the 4 clips for the top, it does not flex etc. could it be that these 400 buck filters are just over priced like hell? wix may figure that keeping the price down they will sell replacement filters? anyway, im happy wioth it am real glade that i woulnt have to put up with a stupid design that the oem filter is.
