air suspension

Guys, I just bought a 2005 F-350 6.0 torqshift dually and the ride is great but it can use some help, according to my kids. I talked to a dealership about installing an air suspension system in the rear. He said that I could install just airbags on top of the springs or a system that would replace the leaf springs. He said that both would help but that the best was the full replacement. I do not know much about trucks, I only bought the truck because it looked great. So, does any of you recommend doing this and if so, does it help the ride a lot?

Thanks.

Re: air suspension

You may be stuck with your ride. You bought a 1 ton and it was made for hauling and towing. I put air bags on my 250 because I tow a 5er. With the air bags it softens my ride and keeps it from bottoming on my stop spring when I tow. Keep the ice cream cones out of the truck and the kids will get use to it

Re: air suspension

I used the Firestone Airbags. I installed them myself and cost was around $250.00 from www.truckspring.com

Re: air suspension

If you install the air bags on top of your springs you will only be riding on the air bags if you have them pumped up enough to take the load off the spings. Doing that would raise the ride height of the rear. If you go full bags and get rid of the springs then you will be riding on the bags only. You will have height adjustability and it should be a better ride than the stiff leaf springs.

if you air the bags up to lift a little weight off the leaf springs...it will ride STIFFER than the leaf spring alone. yup yup.

Air ride is smoother.

Kelderman has a pretty nice set up, but it's $$$$.

Re: air suspension

The Kelderman kit is kick a$s for ride qaulity but adds no capacity to you rig. They offer a full air ride conversion that will do both but the $ is allot more.

Re: air suspension

Chano,

Check your tire pressure in the rear. When I got my truck, the ride was very stiff and sent jolts through my spine when going over the various road bumps. I checked the tire pressure in the rear tires and they were at 80psi. (from the factory) I lowered them to 60psi and it made a big difference in ride. If after checking your tire pressure the ride is still too stiff, then you may want to look into some after market products to help you out.

Good luck,
Brian.
