Re: AIRAID intake!

I noticed a little bit more power but its hard to feel 10 more H.P.'s when you have hundreds on tap already, the real advantage is it helps to avoid buying the expensive stock replacement filter

So you'd rather buy the MORE expensive replacement turbo?

If you want more air why bother with a filter at all?

Re: AIRAID intake!

The stock filter is the best in the business. Maybe that is why someone gave you the AIRAID.

Re: AIRAID intake!

I just searched and found to many threads to count.

You'll find many people that went back to the OEM filter. It was free, as long as it's filtering the air. Have UOA done to make sure the air's not dirty and dusting the turbo if you really want to run it.

Re: AIRAID intake!

Because the OEM filter is the best balance of performance / protection / & price available. Like others have said, the OEM will last a long time, & becomes very cost effective.

Maximum performance = minimum protection. Cleanable reusable is a balancing act w/ protection usually suffering.

Again, I don't get it. The manufacturer puts a filter on there to protect an expensive component. The way they "value engineer" things, I'm sure they'd love to not put a filter on at all. It costs money. Why downgrade the protection for a few extra hp?

Re: AIRAID intake!

I dont know if anyone has had the same results as i have but, in trying these so called cold air intakes one K&N and one AIRAID my intake air temps went up a LOT and the fuel economy went down! Keep what FORD gave you it's the best all around setup you can get.

Re: AIRAID intake!

I've had the AIRRAID for 2 years and it is working great for me. You might want to do the ZOODAD also. I am doing it this weekend.

Did you have the hood with it? I would imagine that just the air raid with no hood may capture hot engine compartment air. Not sure, but it seems possible. In theory, since it is less restrictive than stock (which has its own issues, I know), if directed to a source of outdoor, cool air, it should run cooler.

Re: AIRAID intake!

Are you indicating that the AIRRAID filter had something to do with your turbo failure?

Re: AIRAID intake!

ChaseN03PSD,

Very doubtful you would be able to see a difference unless you comared EGT's before and after on the same day so the ambient air temps are the same.

What we sell is the AFE Pro Guard 7 systems, they get you lower EGT's quicker spool up and a savings over the long term in filter costs. The stock filter is verrrrry good at stopping dirt, it is not that great at flow rates CFM wise. I replaced my 1st OEM filter at 8000 miles to see if I could tell a difference, EGT's were lower, and there was a little more pep in her step too. At that time the filters were over 100.00 each at retail too, now I think they are around 50.00 or so. The manufacturers always compromise on any part of the truck you want to discuss, they have in the past and although the 6.0 is better than past ones, cut corners in air flow rates/air box design. A diesel will use 8-10 times the amount of air a same size gas engine will use, so how can a similair size filtratiosn system supply enough air, it can't. If all you want is a stock truck, the stock air box will work fine (with the exception of the filter costs). If you add a module or programmer and up the HP you need to UP the CFM of air in and out of the engine to get the max benefits of the moduel or programmer you seletced. Ask any engine builder or race prep shop, more fuel equals more HP which increases the need for moe air flow thru the engine. Plus if you add the right combination of parts, you'll get more HP more Torque and still keep the EGT's close to stock, which will increase MPG at the same time. That is if you can keep your foot out of it anyway!
