To all the module makers

I would think that since we have a tuner and i will use the SC tuner for example. Since their is a tuner out on the market who almost has this whole shifting, egt, hp, thing down pretty good. don't you think that someone would be able to see how the SC tuner works with the trucks computers and get the modules to do the same? Do I have a point or am I way lost. If Banks has it down and SuperChips can do it why can't Edge and Quad not do it. And I am only throwing names out their for examples. No Flamming please. I have no time to argue.

Thanks.

Re: To all the module makers

I would like to see how the Superchips shifted at the power levels we are making. It is easy to make a truck shift at lower hp levels.

Also no one knows how the Banks shifts?? Have you dynoed a Banks?

Do any of the Quad modules control the transmission by reprogramming the TCM?

Re: To all the module makers

Although it doesn't seem to matter to much. Some guys used to claim there was no way to control the shifting without plugging into the tranny plug, boy were they way off.

Re: To all the module makers

I don't pretend to know all the internal details, but as I see it there are two ways to tune.

1. Place equipment between the PCM etc. and the sensors and communication lines to 'lie' to the computer so it will pump more fuel or shift differently. The computer still runs the stock program, but it does not see the 'real' engine environment. That's an external module.

2. Replace the program in the PCM, TCM, etc. with new programming. Now the computer can still see the real engine status, but it's program is to give you 400 or whatever hp.

I expect of the two, that the replacement program can be more easily tailored, since you can alter the slope or rate of parameter changes more easily than with external mods, giving more well rounded results.
Of course only the first method lets you change power on the fly, since you can't reload new software in the PCM driving down the road.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable will correct me where I'm in error.

Mike

Re: To all the module makers

Your number 2 scenerio is exactly what SC does. It overwrites the file for the ECM and one for the TCM. Of course it saves your stock files first.

Does anyone know if the Preditor does that as well, or are they just writing the ECM file?

What do you mean at the horse power levels you are making. you claim 160hp Sc claims 150. Even if Sc isn't making 150 like some are claiming. It can't be far off. And no I havn't dynoed a Banks yet. Their is a guy who posted his OPINION of his banks six gun and says it shifted great. I know its not my observation, but Hey time will tell. Either way. If companies like Quad, and Edge don't get on the ball i think they are going to lose out on a lot of sales. I have an Edge product that I can't even sell because evryone knows that the SC shifts better and makes great power and is cheaper. My diesel man has loads of modules including Quad boxes sitting on his desk because of people who swapped out for the tunners. Again this is all just my opinion.

I mean at the HP levels I am selling "125". I think I have been as bold as I can be without running into problems on the board. I offered to pay for someone to show up to a dyno event and run their truck. I DO NOT HAVE ONE TAKER. Is it denial, is everyone too busy, or do people not really care what they acutally make on a dyno?

If your diesel man has lots of our modules on his desk because people traded them in on a tuner that has been out for a week or two I will gladly buy them back. I will make him a lucrative offer for them. My number is 888-842-6572.

I will also take a $$$ bet on whether Edge stomps a SC or not as well and Edge is my biggest competition.

Companies like myself and Edge will always loose some sales to SC because of price. Just like the cheaper trucks cost Ford sales. I can't sell to everyone and I understand that. I can offer more than SC can offer you in performance and in features, but you will pay more for it.

This is just my opinio as well, but I am sure that I will get slapped on the hand for it!

Re: To all the module makers

I believe someone already said that the Edge showed more power on a dyno than the Predator yet the Predator beat the Edge in 0-60 and the 1/4.

Not sure of the details but it was posted somewhere on this forum.

I could care less what the dyno shows, all that matters is good power, flawless shifting, 0-60 and 1/4 times, and not tearing anything up.

That's just me though.

Re: To all the module makers

I agree with you 1000% to an extent. 0-60, egt's and shifting are very important. What irritates me is when someone claims more power than they are making and claimng that it shifts properly.

My whole point was that it is not hard to make a trucks shift properly at 100hp or less. Above that it gets tough, not impossible, but tough. I totally agree that if 100hp runs better and faster because it shifts better, then more power to it. I don't see anyone from Diablo claiming 150hp and it shifting perfect either.

As a consumer you should care about the dyno results. If you pay for 100hp should you not get it? As a manufacture have I been wasting money and time by making sure we meet our claims? I can make a 100hp really easy and for the average Joe it will make him grin until his cheeks hurt. Should I sell this as 150hp? If I did this would I not get strung up? I mean it would run really good and shift really good and I can tell you it makes 150hp, is that sufficient?

I am not saying that these other products are not great products. I know they work and some of them work really well, including ours. What I do not understand is the instant gratification on something that WILL NOT make its claims.

Re: To all the module makers

Understood... OK I care a little what the dyno says. Matter of fact, I think each manufacture should provide a baseline dyno sheet.

I'm still waiting on Superchips and I'm getting a little impatient.

Do you have dyno sheets on your new 125hp module published yet?

I'll buy whoever makes the most power, shifts the best, and who I think has a safe module or programmer (meaning it won't tear my investment up). Bottom line.

Thanks Quad for the info.
