Am I getting the run around? Advice needed...

The last few thousand miles I have noticed a high pitched whistle when the boost was around 5-10psi. So I take it to the dealer, they have it for three days and then I get a call saying that it is my 4" turbo back exhaust making the noise. Note: the truck did not always make this noise with the 4" exhaust. So I then take my SA for a ride to show him that the sound is coming from under the hood and not the exhaust. They keep my truck another day and then call me back and tell me again that nothing is wrong with my truck and that everything "tests" out ok. So I speak with the owner of the dealership about my problem and he has the mechanic take a ride with me (who happens to drag race his 6.0) and he hears the noise and says its a leak somewhere. So now three days later they tell me that they have located the problem. The problem is that the up-pipe from the exhaust manifold is cracked on either the left or the right I dont recall. Now heres the kicker, they tell me that my aftermarket exhaust caused the pipe to crack and that I will have to cough up $900 to fix it. That doesn't make a lick of sense to me because if anything its going to flow better and have less back-pressure. So my question to all of you is how could they possibly blame it on my aftermarket exhaust? Personally I think its just something they can point a finger at and not have to warranty. Any advice or input would be MUCH appreciated.

Re: Am I getting the run around? Advice needed...

Happens all the time...someone doesn't adjust their aftermarket DP right and it rubs a hole in the flex joint on the passenger side up-pipe. I had one in the shop last week.

FYI...the pipe is about 130 bucks from Ford...replace it yourself in a few hours.

Re: Am I getting the run around? Advice needed...

Just went through this with my local dealer regarding a different problem. can read about under white smoke and preformance add ons. As suggested to me, find a different dealer. I did what a difference. Do your homework research dealer, I used the internet - typed in the name of local dealers and read all info included reviews- I found. My new dealer is 105mile from where I live but worth ever mile of the way - hands down no "doubt about it" I felt at home the minute I walk into the place. Day and night difference, besides my fully loaded F-350 6.0l diesel is much like my old 64 Harley, it hates sittin’ around and love crusin’ the open roads. A good selection of CD's or XM radio and you set. One thing about the super duty diesel's I’ve noticed is that long trips seem to go faster and are easier then in gas powered trucks. It you still can't find a dealer that won't jack you around try letting people know what city state your in maybe someone know a good dealer near you. Make sure you can receive email replies. Lesson learned It they can't find a problem then they are not good or don't care either way they arn't worth wasting Your time on, no matter how nice and caring they apear to be. Mare sure (insist) they give you a written invoice that stating what the vehicle was in for, what they did, and that they could not find a problem- don't leave with out it.

Re: Am I getting the run around? Advice needed...

How you know when you have a useless dealer.
I spent 30 year in the service field. Not on cars but I have built a few Harleys, Cars and Jets.
Facts.
They are the dealer they are factory trained.
They have all the bulletins, up date, all the memos, tools, etc.
They should know right after you explain to them what is happening if there is a problem, and if it will require service.
The Only Subjectivity Should Be
They can't pin point the exact problem or tell you exactly what is required to fix it.
But they know the possible scenarios.
If you know for a fact
You have a problem that will required a prolonged stay and they don’t offer you a rental car then chances are you will get the old “ we checked your vehicle, We even did &*&*)#$ for you and couldn’t fined any problems”
Code for words
For just billed the car manufacture under warranty so we could drive your car to the burger stand and buy lunch for everyone, oh yha- did notice anything wrong- but then again the guy who drove isn’t a mechanic and we don’t care.
If you
have to turn around as you pretend to walk out the door and ask them how long if will take to fix, chances are you will get the old – don’t make me retype it.
Hint-Hint if you suspect a useless dealer.
With my old dealer, I started bringing my truck to a real mechanic who for $20 would let me know if the truck required work covered under warranty before going to the dealer - $20 well spent.
If you know you have a problem and the dealer says do you need a ride home, what they really mean is; were going to keep your truck here long to let you think we actually worked on it. However, we ----- you know the words by now.
Bottom line
If there is a minor or a major problem, they should know and be able to advise you as to what the possibilities are and give you a general idea. After all, they are the dealer they claim they are the best so make step up to the plate / call’m out or walk.
What I have noticed is they get paid under warranty regardless of what they do or do not do. Don’t waste your time on dealers that don’t care when there are others that do care.
