Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

I am writing this post to see what kind of aftermarket exhaust systems fellow 6.0 owners have bought. Even though I will probably catch flack for this comment, I think the Cummins with an open pipe is the most big-rig sounding like diesel. I love the sound of the 6.0 with the stock pipe but a friends cummins with an aftermarket exhaust had that deep, tractor like sound, and now I am in the market for a new exhaust. I would sure like to show him up. If anyone could recomend an exhaust system that would make the 6.0 sound more like a big rig, it would be greatly appreciated. (And save the comments about Ford making the new 6.0 quieter and that I should have known it was a quieter motor, I already know this and am trying to remedy the situation)

Hey
Check out the DPPI sound with out the cat. Sounds like a big block with a turbin at the rear. great flow. Sounds better than a Cummings to me.

Re: Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

I just had the muffler cut off, and its nice and quiet till you roll on the throttle. But now that I've added some HP to it, it had a nice rumble all the time.

Bundo, I didn't even have 1000 miles on it when I took it into the woods to go deer hunting. came out with more than just a few scratches.

But then again, I didn't buy er to be a show piece, yeah doesn't look nice, but oh well

Re: Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

If you're looking for that sound the I6 Cummins makes you cna't do it with a V8. However, you can make the V8 sound good/loud, but it's different.

Re: Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

I personally think the I-6 sounds horrible, no matter which kind of aftermarket set up you run. .
Put a set of dual DPPI pipes on a 6.0L and you have the best sounding diesel engine in the world.

Re: Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

There is no way our trucks will sound like a normal diesel as long as they go with the v-8.No matter what pipe you put on it it will always sound like a helicopter. Some people like some dont.My 97 is straight piped and at very low rpms it sounds ok at best but over 900 rpm's it starts in with that choppy sound.

Re: Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

My neighbor removed his cat, muffler and installed a dual out 3" Y just before his bed. It then splits into duals going around each side of the spare tire. It has the turbo jet howl at idle and sounds like a big block gas motor at 3/4-WOT.

there is no flutter whatsoever no matter what exhaust system you go with on the 6.0 diesels.

Not so, with the 6.0 (hey that rhymes!!!!). I straight piped my truck and while it doesn't have that rumble of a 4 inch system muffler, it does sound better than stock, and really sounds better than a 7.3L...No flutter at all.

Re: Any ideas on a mean sounding exhaust??

I wish I had a means to record the sound of the neighbors straight piped 6.0 because I have possession of it all day. It sounds so good I had to crank it up for my girlfriend before she left this morning to get her response.

She's a keeper!
