I've got one in transit and I also need to know the best place to install the sending unit.

Re: Anyone added a water temp guage to 6.0...

Try the heater supply tube (black-painted metal tube, passenger side front top of the engine). I would not recommend using a T-fitting at the existing ECT sensor location. Coolant sensors must be in a stream of coolant to operate properly, and putting them on a T-fitting takes the sensor nose out of the coolant stream.

Even with a core bypass valve, there will be constant flow in that heater tube.

Re: Anyone added a water temp guage to 6.0...

If you want to cut one of your Rad hoses you can install a coupler with a pre taped hole for the sensor. Sorry I dont have any links for it. I have a coupler on my Rx7 with a tap. Think I paid around 20 bucks for it. Came in a bunch of size's and is made of Alum.

Barrett, the 6.0L and the 7.3L are two completely different animules.

Unfortunately the 6.0L isn't very friendly when it comes to adding aftermarket water temperature and oil temperature gauges.

Thanks, those are two good suggestions. Now all I need to do is choose exhaust and chip....

Re: Anyone added a water temp guage to 6.0...

The difficulty with putting the temp sender in the upper rad hose is that, until the thermostat opens, it's not going to see accurate temperature.

Re: Anyone added a water temp guage to 6.0...

it may not be the best spot, but i took the driver side block drain, and brazed an adapter to it and mounted my mechanical deal there.
short of that i was going to remove the front cover and weld a bung up there on return side.

You've got the right idea, have a look at the 6.0 bible, page 29, it shows the direction of water flow. The sensor would need to be before the heater control valve as there isn't flow on the other side of the valve when Max A/C is selected. Even with the sensor in this location(prior to the valve), the readings won't be accurate when Max A/C is selected because coolant won't be flowing. I'm using this location to tap in for a coolant filter, using a 4 way pipe union, with the 4th position being the temp sensor. With the coolant always flowing to the filter, my temp readings should be pretty good even when the heater valve is closed.
